🎙 THE BUSINESS END | EPISODE 47 | BRAD AINSWORTH | LIVE 🎧 He was a successful financial advisors working in the UK banking sector. Then one conversation changed everything. The awards were coming in. His career was progressing. By every conventional measure, Brad Ainsworth was succeeding. But something wasn't right. Was he genuinely helping people, or simply selling them products? Then he met Jean Smith. Recently widowed, Jean didn't need another financial product. She needed someone she could trust. That conversation changed everything. In 2013, with two young children, three months of financial breathing room and just one client, Brad walked away from banking to establish @cathedralwealth Management. Today, the business serves clients across the UK and has earned national recognition. But this episode isn't simply about business success. It's about the courage to challenge convention, the consequences of difficult decisions and the responsibility that comes with leadership. Brad joins The Business End for a remarkably candid conversation exploring: 🔹 Walking away from security to follow your principles. 🔹 Why trust and relationships outperform transactions. 🔹 The painful lessons of growing too quickly. 🔹 Building teams that thrive under pressure. 🔹 The human side of leadership, resilience and responsibility. 🔹 Why community and giving back matter in business. There are laughs, uncomfortable truths and moments of genuine vulnerability. And one powerful lesson: You can build a business by winning transactions. But you build something that lasts by earning trust. A huge thank you to Brad for his honesty, generosity and continued support of The Business End through Cathedral Wealth Management. 🎧 Episode 47 is LIVE. 🌐 www.business-end.com 🤝 www.cathedralwealthmanagement.co.uk 💬 Would you walk away from success if you no longer believed in what it was rewarding? #TheBusinessEnd #BradAinsworth #CathedralWealthManagement #Leadership #Entrepreneurship #Trust #BusinessLeadership

Most business networks take a fee and give members a room... then over to them to take their chances. We want The Business End to be far more than that, provide real value for sponsors/members/attendees and be able to demonstrate it in real hard numbers. Over the last few days we have switched on two things on our intelligence platform. The first is a live membership card. Every member has one on their phone. It reads their risk record each time it opens, works as the door pass at our lunches, and on the reverse shows the next lunch, their leadership profile, our latest intelligence report and their credit we give to members for attending our events. The second is "The TBE Exchange". Every lunch ticket a member buys pays 5% back as credit. Introduce someone who joins TBE and you receive 15% of their first-year fee, then 5% of each renewal for as long as you both remain members. The credit goes towards the next lunch in one tap and comes straight off at checkout. There is nothing to claim. The Exchange also lists our corporate partners and the rates they offer members, because the most useful thing a network can do is send business to the people inside it. A club should reward the people who build it. This is our first step in doing that properly.

🍷 ANYONE CAN MAKE A SALE. NOT EVERYONE CAN BUILD A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE. There's a fundamental difference between selling someone something and giving them a reason to come back. One creates a transaction. The other creates a relationship. 🎙️ Kevin Boyle, founder of WineVistas, understands that distinction. In the wine industry, as in business, the quality of your product matters. But so does the trust you build, the promises you keep and the experience you deliver. Because the real measure of success isn't always what someone buys today. It's whether they choose you again tomorrow. And that raises a question every business leader should be asking: Are we building long-term loyalty, or simply chasing the next transaction? 🍷 Discover WineVistas Explore Kevin's world of exceptional wines, passionate producers and the relationships behind them. 👉 https://winevistas.com 🎙️ The Business End | Episode 46 | Kevin Boyle Elite sport. Business. Leadership. Lessons that travel. 🌐 https://business-end.com #TheBusinessEnd #WineVistas #KevinBoyle #Leadership #BusinessGrowth #CustomerExperience #Entrepreneurship

Great news ahead of our next London Leadership Lunch on Friday 13 November. Judicare Law will be our event partner, and their CEO, Neil Heaney, will join Neil Back MBE on the panel. Neil Back won the 2003 Rugby World Cup with England, captained his country, toured three times with the British & Irish Lions and made 339 appearances for Leicester Tigers, winning two Heineken Cups and five league titles. He played in a side that set its standards higher than anyone else’s and kept them when the pressure was greatest. Neil Heaney brings a different view of the same question. He spent more than a decade as a professional footballer with Arsenal, Manchester City and Southampton before founding Judicare in 2009. The firm now advises clients on legal matters across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and many current and former elite sportspeople go to him first when they need help abroad. We will ask both of them a practical question: how do elite performers hold their standards when the pressure is real, and what does that mean for the people running businesses? Our thanks to Neil and the team at Judicare for their support. The lunch is at Hawksmoor Wood Wharf in Canary Wharf, from 12.00 to 15.00, hosted by Liam Mooney Justin M. Fitzpatrick. It is limited to 60 seats and places are by invitation. If you would like to join us, or know someone who should be in the room, message email liam@business-end.com or jmf@business-end.com

73% of the senior business people in our Monaco room said their biggest risk comes from outside: AI, the pace of change, pressure they cannot control. In elite sport, 86% of what actually broke under pressure came from inside the team. That gap is where businesses get hurt. On Wednesday we took it into the room at Castelroc for The Business End’s Monaco Leadership Lunch, powered by @vanlanschotkempen, with Jamie Cudmore, former captain of Canada, and Alain van der Heijden of Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management. What was said stays in the room. The question we left everyone with is this: when the pressure is at its highest, who in your organisation is genuinely allowed to say stop? Change hits every competitor at once. Your systems decide who comes through. The next Monaco Leadership Lunch is on Thursday 26 November.

Glencairn, Dublin, Wednesday 30 September 2026. Achilles, powered by The Business End, brought together procurement, sustainability and risk leaders to discuss social value as the new competitive differentiator in Irish procurement. Thank you to our panel, Declan Kidney, Katie Ferrier, Jeanne Copeland and Suzanne Hickey, to the Briitsh Ambassador the team at Glencairn, for a remarkable venue, and to everyone who joined us, old faces and new. It was a strong room, and the third half was arguably the best of the evening :) Next stop with Achilles: Sydney, 21 October.

Great to hear from Canadian rugby legend, Jamie Cudmore today in Monaco who was on fine form. A fantastic afternoon, a full house, great venue and a strong room. We explored two different sectors, Sport and Finance, with Alain van der Heijden from Van Lanschot Kempen private banking Both speakers reached the same conlusions about leadership and elite performance. This was our third leadership lunch in Monaco this year. Every time the quality of the room and the audience has grown significantly. More analysis and photos to follow.

Elite sport is unforgiving about pressure. A missed standard shows up on the scoreboard within minutes, in front of everyone. Business is slower to deliver the verdict, which is exactly why standards drift. A shortcut in a supply chain, a check skipped because the deadline was tight, a supplier nobody looked at closely enough. None of it costs anything until the day it costs a great deal. That gap between how sport handles pressure and how business handles it is what we will be talking about in Sydney on Wednesday 21 October, in partnership with Achilles Information Limited Benn Robinson joins us. Seventy-two Tests for the Wallabies, the most-capped Waratah in history, RUPA President while still playing, and the past decade in sports underwriting, where his job has been to price what happens when things go wrong. Katie Ferrier of Achilles will be in conversation with him, with Justin M. Fitzpatrick and Liam Mooney in the chair. We ran the same format with Achilles last week in Dublin and in Belfast in March. Over 80% of the rooms were senior leaders, every one through a personal introduction. Sydney will be the same kind of room. W Sydney, 5.30pm. Registration can be found in the comments section below.

They lost a year’s work in ten minutes. Years before Kevin Boyle founded WineVistas, he walked into a bar in Burgundy and witnessed something that would fundamentally change the way he thought about wine. It was June 2014. A violent hailstorm had just ripped through the vineyards. Inside the bar were local wine producers whose livelihoods depended on the land surrounding them. Kevin soon realised the scale of what had happened. The people sitting around him had just lost the majority of an entire year’s work in around ten minutes. Not because they made a bad decision. Not because they lacked preparation, commitment or effort. Because it hailed. For Kevin, it changed the way he saw the bottle of wine sitting on a table. Behind it was a family. A producer. A year of work. And an extraordinary amount of risk that none of them could completely control. Years later, when Kevin left a successful career in technology to build WineVistas, that afternoon in Burgundy was still with him. And he draws an interesting parallel with another world he knows well: rugby. Burgundy is rugby country. Its producers compete season by season. Some years reward them. Some years absolutely clobber them. And then they get up and go again. Perhaps that is one of the most powerful lessons behind WineVistas. Resilience isn’t believing you can control the storm. It’s deciding what you do after it passes. 🎙️ Kevin Boyle, Founder of WineVistas | The Business End | Episode 46 #TheBusinessEnd #WineVistas #Leadership #Resilience #Entrepreneurship #Burgundy

🎙 The Business End | Episode 46 | Kevin Boyle | LIVE 🎧 What happens when you walk away from the career you know and back yourself to build something completely different? Kevin Boyle spent more than two decades in enterprise technology, including helping build DocuSign’s EMEA operation on its journey towards IPO. Then he changed direction and built Wine Vistas. Just 18 months into trading, a serious accident left him facing surgery, multiple fractures and months off his feet. For a business built on personal relationships, it was a major test. But Kevin rebuilt, adapted and kept moving. One line from our conversation stayed with us: “If I just sell bottles of wine, then someone else will sell them different bottles of wine. If I sell myself and what I can bring to the table, that’s a different proposition.” This episode is about far more than wine. It’s about reinvention, resilience, relationships, entrepreneurship and understanding where your real competitive advantage lies. We also explore what wine can learn from tech, what tech can learn from wine, how Kevin uses AI, and why relationships still matter in an increasingly automated world. 🎙 Episode 46 is LIVE now. If you’re building something of your own, this one is worth a listen. #TheBusinessEnd #Leadership #Entrepreneurship #Resilience #Business #HighPerformance #Podcast
