🌈 Pride Family Fest was so much fun. Loved meeting all the little bedazzlers and families who came out and sparkled together!

Big thanks to @queerfamilyportraits (@liamjamesphoto & @courtneydeutz) for these amazing photos, and to @grazenorthloop (@mollymcherrmann) for being such fun partners. 🫶

We had the honor of documenting @grazenorthloop Pride Family Fest again #this year, and it was such a good reminder of why we love what we do.

So grateful to be part of a Twin Cities community that continues to show up, celebrate LGBTQIA+ families, and create spaces where everyone belongs.

Happy Pride. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Post 1 of 2 from the 2026 James Beard Awards ✨ This was my eleventh year covering this event and one of the reasons I love this assignment is having a front row seat to watching these amazing stories unfold. @beardfoundation

Of course there are the stories of the nominees and winners, but also of families, of generations past, inspiration and perusing dreams that require every ounce of grit and determination.

This year the hard stories prevailed, specifically around the vital role of Immigrants in our food industry, food scarcity and how our food is changing because of the climate. Together is the only way forward and we each have our part to be responsible for - no matter how big or small ✨ we hold joy and pain at the same time. Cheers to all the nominees and winners this year - we are so proud of you all! Here are some of our favorite moments ✨

A big thank you to @liamjamesphoto and @lizhardt for photographing alongside me and editing into the wee hours of the morning to make it all possible!

If you ever think that representation doesn’t matter, well, I’ve got something to share with you.

This past weekend, Eli and I received a lovely message from a student leader from @wileaders , a leadership seminar in Wisconsin. This leader shared with us that seeing two men show their love for one another and simply be physically present as well as show what queer leaders can look like at this seminar allowed him to have confidence in themselves to share with their parents about being gay.

Since coming out and being part of this org, it was never an outright goal for me to be some kind of representation, but I understood that my existence there and my queerness was valuable to both the org and student leaders. My simple presence was transformational for others.

So, I knew that when Eli joined WILS that our relationship would make some impact. Did I know what that would be? No, and that’s ok. But to receive this lovely letter just make it even more important to note that the presence and visibility of queer people can transform lives, systems, and structures. Eli and I may not always think our marriage is revolutionary but to others it’s a life line, it’s a weight being lifted, it’s a dream come to life.

Thank you so much to those who came before us and did the work to make our lives possible as we get to make others lives possible too.

And of course, thank you @weddingsbyliam for capturing these beautiful moments at our wedding.

This is a gratitude post to the librarians of @stpaulpubliclibrary who chose Lobizona for Read Brave 2026, their citywide book club.

I spent last week in Saint Paul, where thousands of copies of my book had been distributed to the community, in both English & Spanish. I spoke at eight schools, addressing over 1,000 students in-person, plus those who didn’t feel safe coming to campus & tuned in remotely.

My last night there, I joined the remarkable @mayorkaohlyher onstage at a celebratory event catered by Argentine chefs, where city councilmember @sauraforward3 thanked me for writing this book that had helped their city “connect, recover, heal, & understand one another during one of the most difficult challenges” they had ever faced.

Read Brave was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life, & I’m still processing the impact of the teens I met & the questions they asked. Onstage, I was amazed by Mayor Her’s authenticity & vulnerability. She opened up in a way that connected all of us. The two awesome teens who shared the stage with us expressed themselves so beautifully, @kt_isdabest & rayah.won. Our discussion was moderated by the Director of the SPPL, the generous & compassionate @mlhartman who is one of the gentlest & most considerate people I’ve ever met.

As authors, we don’t get to meet most of our readers. We send our stories into the worlds, and we hope they will resonate with their intended audiences, but that’s all we can do—hope. Yet taking part in Read Brave has assured me that Lobizona has found a true home in Saint Paul, & I am both honored & grateful.

Professional photos by @liamjamesphoto 📸 Thanks to #SPPL: @mlhartman & her angels—@the_little_librarian @saopitz @clubesssss—& of course Ethan, who went to every school w me & had to hear me say the same thing over & over & over (x8)! Gracias a @paulasaboresargentinos @delsurempanadasmn @bipocfoodways @miriam.lea.official por la comida deliciosa y la charla sobre las costumbres argentinas. Thanks @jamiet2001 for the alfajores & Tupperware 😹 & to @karinalozano33 for still championing & teaching Lobizona after all these years.

Love you @shirelwainer! & of course Leo. 💜
