Howdy yall! Pictured is a Salamander Company Champion that I finished after roughly 40 hours of work spanning around 2 months!

This piece has been an absolute blast to paint, and just in time for the Nova Open Capital Palette painting competition! The mini itself is a custom kitbash and sculpt by @lastlightcreative with a few tweaks by me. I also sculpted and kitbashed the base using green stuff and parts from @make_it_epic (shout out to local Raleigh businesses!).

Thanks @liampaintsstuff and @for_the_imperial_greater_good for the tips and suggestions on how to improve the mini - still lots to learn and will take the tips onto future projects!

Also shoutout to @elminiaturista for his Patreon tutorials, they’ve helped me learn the basics of OSL for this project!

This piece is something else I finished for Crimson Brush last month. It was done for the new Crimson Challenger category, which required entrants to paint the same figure (with some amount of conversion allowed): a Lord of Blights from @warhammerofficial

It was a really fun piece, and made a nice break from working on my big space marine. It was also another step in my gradual digital sculpting journey.

@warhammerofficial very kindly sent me an early copy of the new Eldritch Raiders box, so I decided to paint my favourite model from the set.

Eldar models seem to be going from strength to strength at the moment. Really makes me think I should paint more of them.

Long time no post, but I’ve been busily working away at a couple of pieces for the last few months. The first of these is Adrax Agatone.

I have a well known love for Salamanders, but strangely enough I’ve never actually painted one purely for display. You know what they say: go big or go home.

I’ve been working on this piece off and on for well over a year (maybe close to 2?). The complex lighting and the sheer scale of the piece were a massive challenge, but I’m happy with where it ended up.

Many thanks to @davecolwell725 for some excellent feedback throughout.

For obvious reasons this sculpt is a one off, and will never be sold or otherwise distributed in any way. The sculpt (and more loosely the paint job) are based off an illustration inside the front cover of the last limited edition Salamanders codex. Unfortunately, I have no idea who the artist is.

Here’s a miniature I painted during the NMM workshop at Sydney’s @theguildsinn in August. Everyone was given this fantastic model, and @liampaintsstuff walked us through not just light placement, but also how to think about the miniature’s environment to tell a story and emphasize the painting direction.

Since then, I’ve started every project by asking:
Where is this model in this moment?
What is the lighting telling the viewer?
For example, if it’s in a forest, you might capture the green hues and tall silhouettes of trees in the NMM reflections.

This was my very first attempt at NMM. Up until now, I’ve been focused on getting my base coats clean and tightening my brush and paint control. Trying out this technique was eye-opening, and it was incredible to watch others in the workshop pull it all together so effortlessly.
