For many families, this is about more than an Inquiry. It is about truth, answers, accountability and meaningful change.

Behind every case is a family. Behind every family is a baby whose life mattered.

For those directly affected, this week may be incredibly difficult. Please remember that people will experience it differently — some will speak, some will watch quietly, and some may need to step away.

This morning, my friend @lianneruddle appeared on Sky News to speak so courageously about her beautiful son, Ezra, and the devastating failures in bereavement care that she and Chris received.

She asked the health secretary @jamesmurray_ldn to commit to mandating and funding bereavement care training.

The care they experienced is beyond shocking. It fell so far below the standard that any bereaved family should expect, and those failings have only compounded the unimaginable trauma of losing their son.

Devastatingly, they were given just 20 precious minutes with Ezra because nobody told them about the CuddleCot and this was despite there being four available within the hospital. They were handed an empty memory box and told there was no opportunity to take photographs because the ward camera was broken. This is only a small glimpse into what they experienced.

Several months ago, Lianne and Chris reached out to me to ask about the care they had received. Having to explain what should have happened, the time they could have had with Ezra, the memories they should have been supported to create, and the care they deserved truly broke my heart. No parent should ever have to hear that they deserved so much more than they were given.

Lianne, I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of you.

The strength and bravery that you and Chris have shown as you continue to fight for justice for your beautiful boy is beyond words.

I cried watching you this morning as you so eloquently spoke about Ezra, what losing him means to you, and the lasting impact that poor bereavement care has had on your family.

You are an incredible mummy to Ezra. Even through your own heartbreak, you are determined to make sure no other family experiences what you have.

Thank you for asking me to be with you today. It was an honour to stand beside you. I couldn’t be prouder of you, Chris, and everything you are doing in Ezra’s name.

Your love for him is endless, and his legacy will help change lives. You will make sure of it.

How beautiful are these pictures? Absolutely stunning but there is a heartfelt story behind this, the little blue heart contains the ashes of a little baby born sleeping. The heart was given as the something blue for the bride. When I got the message about this it made me cry and also feel honoured that something I have made can bring a little bit of comfort to a grieving family. A grieving family’s life that is trying to carry on. I also say to people don’t underestimate the power of these little palm hearts. I know first hand. As I have and still use and get comfort myself. Just two very unhinged, loss mums whose paths crossed for the worst reason imaginable losing our babies.

When @lianneruddle lost her little boy, Ezra, I reached out to her, and we instantly clicked. Two normal girls just trying to survive grief, held together by dark humour, voice notes, text messages, and being there for each other through it all — even with oceans between us.

We’ve navigated grief, life, love, relationships, and every messy thing in between together. She’s my person. My spirit animal.
