@basuramusical at the @alliancetheatre in Atlanta, Georgia with the most incredible team I could ever dream of working with 🎻💙🧡

Thank you to @gloriaestefan, @emily_estefan, @karenzdc, #MichaelGreif, @dramaturglia, and @pattideldancer for endeavoring to tell this powerful story and realizing it in such a resounding and beautiful way. This music and book continually moves me through and through, and I’m grateful to be helping share this story to audiences every night.

To @alacamoire - thank you for everything you have given me and the music dpt. As not only the music supervisor but foremost a PERSON, you are an inspiration—in your example and your artistry. I am grateful to not only be a thoughtful witness to this example but to also actively collaborate with you throughout this process.

And @cynthiameng - thank you for being such an incredible leader. Your immense talent is matched only by a largesse of spirit—kindness, humor, and humanity that makes this experience and orchestra special. Thank you for being a force of good, on and off the piano!

And thank you to @davidwlai for bringing me onto this project - from the first workshop to now. I am grateful for the trust you have given me with this, and you really brought together a special group of people in this orchestra.

#shoutout the basura band and the amazing cast, crew, and creatives that have made this experience a triumph in my life.

I can’t believe my time working on @basuramusical at the @alliancetheatre has come to a close. This experience was everything I could have dreamed of and more. Thank you @davidwlai for reaching out and trusting me to take on this role. I had so much fun with the violin part and it was incredible to be performing on stage.

To @alacamoire , it was such an honor to be able to work with you so closely. Some of my favorite memories of the entire experience were watching you take my iPad and arrange my part in real time. It was thrilling for me to try and play exactly how you envisioned it.

@gloriaestefan and @emily_estefan , the music for this musical is absolutely incredible, and your support as we brought it to life meant so much. I can’t believe I can say I had the privilege of working with the both of you.

@cynthiameng , I can’t thank you enough for being such an amazing music director. You are the glue that holds us all together, and you crush it every single time.

And to the entire band (I know you guys are playing a show RIGHT NOW as I write this), I love you all so much. I could not have asked for a better team. You guys are all so incredibly talented but more importantly, I am so glad we all connected and became true friends.

And to the cast, the rest of the creative team and crew, I am just so grateful for the entire experience. Each of you contributed to making this experience such a warm and loving environment. You all feel like familia to me. Wishing you all an amazing rest of the run. ❤️‍🩹

I’ve been in Atlanta the last few months putting up a new musical, @basuramusical, at the wonderful Alliance Theatre with an amazing music team helmed by the absolute GOAT @alacamoire. @gloriaestefan and @emily_estefan wrote a fabulous score that we get to play 8x a week for a bit and I am having the time of my life with this cast and band. Some scattered thoughts…

For the curious, the show is based on the @orquestadecateura in Paraguay: in a town built around a giant landfill, a small group of people found a way to build instruments from the trash found in the landfill, which allowed children in the community to learn to play music despite the unbelievably un-ideal circumstances they lived in. They formed an orchestra of these recycled instruments and have now played all around the world, and have also started a fully functioning music class organization for hundreds of students in Asunción. Over the last months we’ve gotten to spend a meaningful amount of time with some members of the orchestra, who have shared their instruments, food, stories, and music with us! It’s been a beautiful cultural and musical exchange.

In the videos: a bass made of an oil drum, saxophones made from drain pipes, violins made from baking sheets and forks, a harp with levers made from coins and door keys…!

Ada came down with me and, thanks to the Alliance, has been with me every step of the way thanks to an unbelievable childcare program (worthy of its own post eventually...)

Last photo — the band’s opening night gift to me (a new iPad case). I had been using one that I bought when I was still a software engineer! Time is a vortex.

Opening night for @basuramusical at the @alliancetheatre came and went and I will never get over it 😭 Feeling so incredibly lucky and grateful to have been welcomed into the Basura familia just a few weeks before this celebratory moment. The warmth I have experienced since joining is unmatched; from the cast, crew, creative team and of course the incredible band 🫶🏾 Imposter syndrome is such a common thing to experience in the arts world; but I can honestly say I have felt a deep sense of belonging with this team from day one 🥰

Thank you to @davidwlai and @alacamoire for trusting me to join this beautiful show, the gratitude runs deeper than you know. And to the Basura band, I can't even find the words so...💖🔥🎉😘🥳🥨💅🏾🤗🥰🙌🏾👑🥹

I came into my 30’s with @titaniquemusical - 100+ shows Off-Broadway, dozens of rehearsals, thousands of giggles, and one epic Broadway transfer leading a fab copyist team. It’s weird, it’s queer, and the legacy of musicians and actors on this show runs deep. Couldn’t take a single picture by myself because I can’t stay away from these remarkable people.

My thanks could 🎶 goooo onnnn 🎶 but I have to share all the love for @bryanblaskie + @nicholasconnell who somehow knew that this scrappy gay bonanza was exactly where I needed to be. Cheers to the family business @arigoldhelz @em__rae + my love @jonathankparks 🩵 Swim, don’t walk, to the St. James for some queer joy and community straight to the bloodstream!!
