Pain with breastfeeding is more common than many moms expect, and sometimes small changes can make a big difference — from trying different feeding positions, improving latch, or getting support with creams, gels, and shields 🌿✨

What makes breastfeeding pain different is that it exists inside a relationship — you’re caring for your baby while also trying to care for yourself 🥺🫶

If you’re struggling, you are not failing. You deserve support, comfort, and gentleness too 💕

Saving this here in case another mama needs the reminder: pain is a signal, not something you just have to “push through” 🤍

Meet Krystal Thomas, MSN, IBCLC ,a newly graduated Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner from Thomas Jefferson University and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant dedicated to advancing maternal and infant health through compassionate, evidence-based care.

Krystal is the founder of Life and Lactation, a lactation consulting practice committed to empowering families through education, feeding support, and maternal-infant wellness advocacy. Her work centers on improving outcomes for Black women, infants, and children while promoting equitable and culturally responsive care within our communities.

We are honored to highlight nurses and maternal health professionals who continue to make an impact through advocacy, education, and service.

Earlier this month, we hosted a luncheon to celebrate our Community Investment mini-grant recipients. This event allowed grantees to share how the grants will boost their sustainability and encouraged networking among the wonderful organizations committed to improving Black maternal health in Philadelphia.

As a community-based organization leader myself, I know firsthand the significance of this support. It was incredibly rewarding to see an idea that began almost 3 years ago, focused on uplifting Black community-based organizations, finally come to fruition. 🥰
