Thanks to @lifewithjacey for the creative enthusiasm that led me to smashing clay one morning.

You don't need fancy tools, use what you have. It doesn't need to look like anything. But the more you create, the more creative you get. You can't deplete creativity. The more creative you get, the more creativity comes to you.

So go make something! I double dog dare you!

These pieces were lovingly handmade by my studio-mate @lifewithjacey and my brother @tristanzawadzki.

At the beginning of 2025, a group of girls were brought together by pottery. Many of us made plates that wobble and don’t stack in our first dinnerware handbuilding class and soon moved on and tried to forget about our potato chip plates - but not Jacey. Jacey labored over those plates for months carefully doing 3 layers of underglaze and painstakingly hand painting tomatoes like a porcelain painter of the 18th century. In October the plates were finally completed and we dubbed it Tomato Plate Completion Day and we ALL celebrated.

This week, my little brother came to visit me from Minnesota. I took him to the pottery studio thinking he’d indulge me for a little bit and then want to bail. But instead he loved it- and much to my annoyance created a mug on his first attempt. 😂 Later, at home, I caught him watching @floriangatsby and I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud.

Last night the Pottery Girls from my studio gathered for a White Elephant gift Exchange of 2 pottery pieces you made- a “good” one and a “bad” one. On the way to the party my Brother gave me the sweetest and most unnecessary thank you for bringing 2 extra pieces so he could participate in the pottery exchange. I was so touched to see his genuine excitement in participating.

At the party I was reminded during our exchange of the “bad” pieces how much beauty is in the eye of the beholder as my friends fought over a bowl I thought they would all laugh at. But when we got to the “good” round I was really blown away by the love of this little community I’ve found. Slightly miffed at having the BEAUTIFUL to-go mug made by @stserna stolen from me, I reached for a yet unopened gift bag. When I peaked what lay under the tissue paper I literally gasped and I think my heart skipped a beat. There, lying in the bag, was one of Jacey’s long belabored tomato plates. I literally started crying, so touched she would bring it back to us. ❤️🎄
