From my first film festival experience in 2011 for a short film “Waste of Time” I produced

That’s my writing mentor and Uncle, Greg Antonacci on the right

My Uncle Greg had a 5 decade career as a writer, director and producer. He wrote one of the very first gay characters on TV for a show called “Brothers” on Showtime in the 80s and acted on the Sopranos & Boardwalk Empire prior to his passing in 2017

One of my favorite tidbits of advice he gave me was
“remember there are only around 12 stories in the history of the world and they are told over and over but in different voices and formats”

Making that short film was instrumental to me in understanding on a small scale to where to put your money, things you can get away with for free or low cost, and things you had to have money for to get it done right. I always encourage new/aspiring filmmakers to make a short movie. It will help you understand better the overview of how it’s done. Furthermore it will show you what your good at and what aspects of filmmaking you may want to pursue the most.

Dead Poets Society | Ölü Ozanlar Derneği
1989 | USA | imdb: 8.1 | pp:8.5 | 2h8m
Comedy, Drama
English teacher John Keating inspires his students to look at poetry with a different perspective of authentic knowledge and feelings.
Fakat yeni İngilizce öğretmeni John Keating’in okula atanmasıyla çok şey değişecektir... Keating öğrencilerine ders kitaplarını yırtıp atmalarını, kalıplaşmış düşünce şekillerinden uzaklaşmalarını ve hayatlarını dolu dolu yaşamalarını öğütlemesiyle okulun statükocu tavrına son derece zıt bir profil çizmektedir. Öğrencilerini şiir ve nitelikli edebi yapıtlarla tanıştıran Keating onların pek çoğu üzerinde derin bir etki yaratır ve onların geleceğe dair hayallerinin şekillenmesini sağlar. Elbette Keating’in yaklaşımının okul yönetimi tarafından farkedilmesi ve üstüne gidilmesi uzun sürmeyecektir. Fakat okul müdürü Nolan Keating’i okuldan uzaklaştırma kararı aldığında hayatlarını değiştirdiği öğrencileri Keating’i savunmak için harekete geçerler. 1989’da dört dalda Oscar’a aday olan Ölü Ozanlar Derneği, Tom Schulman’a En İyi Senaryo ödülünü getirmişti.
