Move Fast will be donating 10% of our profits to @womenforchangesa, in solidarity with the fight against GBV and femicide in South Africa. MOVE FAST | 10 OCT | ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT LightBeams is a Cape Town-based DJ, radio host and lawyer known for her eclectic taste and charismatic presence behind the decks. Never bound by genre, she draws inspiration from her musical curiosity and love for underground subcultures. Her approach to selection is driven by instinct and intuition. She deftly traverses sounds across the spectrum of dance music, fusing diverse electronic selections with sensual vocal-driven tracks. Her sets invite listeners to go deeper and listen harder. She has performed in venues across South Africa, the Netherlands and Berlin, lighting up dance floors at well-loved local parties including Vault, Champagne, and Death of Glitter. International bookings include renowned clubs RadioRadio and Garage Noord in Amsterdam. Constantly honing her craft, she cut her teeth across radio stations in South Africa and Europe. Her 2024 monthly residency on Rotterdam’s Operator Radio explored the nuances of her sound away from the dancefloor. She credits her attuned ear to immersing herself in an array of musical spaces while growing up in Johannesburg and studying abroad in the Netherlands. Her love for club culture runs deep. In 2024, she completed her LLM in International Law at Tilburg University, where her thesis research focused on leveraging international cultural rights to recognise club music as intangible cultural heritage. Sound Guide Selectors 🖤💿 This week, we’ve invited @lightbeams_ as our latest Selector Series curator. Her deeply rooted curiosity for music has continued to shape her eclectic approach to selection, with sets that move between the familiar and the unexpected. Alongside her work behind the decks, she recently completed her LLM, with a thesis exploring the intersections of music, art, culture, and human rights. For her, academia and music aren’t separate pursuits. Research and critical thought sits alongside listening, feeling, and experience, with each informing the other. In her words : “These are tracks are forever favourites of mine. My selections highlight what I’ve been playing out loads this year; including staples from my collection and some newer finds that I’ve been rinsing. And, of course, it wouldn’t be complete without deeper, dubby bits and some shimmering vocal moments scattered in there <3 “ Tracklist : Isaac Carter, Callum Asa - Feel Me (Twisted Dub) Octo Octa - Find Your Way Home Forest Drive West - Dualism Kelela & PinkPantheress - the bridge not even noticed - Eteus (K-Lone Remix) Olof Dreijer - Echoed Dafnino (feat. MaMan) james K - Play (Objekt Remix)
