On a whim, I accepted an invite from @maudehecht to do a Hyrox competition in Mexico City last November. Maude is always planning her next adventure which often involve some combo of travel and feats of endurance and strength and tricking your brain into loving all of it. In CDMX, we qualified for the @hyroxworld in Stockholm and decided to give it a go. So proud to represent the 915 and @thepacktrainingco at the Hyrox World Championships! So grateful for great programming and running regime from @likehell_raquel , grateful to @stevenpallares for the endless encouragement and pushing me to do better, and grateful for my two Eds who came to cheer us on. Through the entire race, I kept hearing this sweet encouraging voice pushing me forward with “go mama go!” Especially grateful for Maude and her joyful embrace of adventure. What a great partner and friend!

In the words of Samuel L Jackson… “SURPRISE MOTHER F*****!” Turns out we have 2 HYROX world championship qualifiers. DOUBLES! Meet Susie Byrd. One of the sweetest hard working humans you’ll ever meet. Susie didn’t walk in on day 1 like Maude, but when Susie walked in the gym 6 years ago she hit the ground running. Determined to always improve on a skill & understand the “why” behind everything we do she was pretty much a coaches dream from Day 1 (we’d say Susie’s hard work & sacrifices were worth it, wouldn’t you?) The moral of the story is never doubt your capabilities & always work your ass off; you never know who you’re inspiring.. Cheers to 2 of the baddest f*****g women in El Paso!

10 years ago, the night before we opened our doors for business, a crazy woman came zooming down a dark alley around 9pm. That woman was Maude. We were putting together the final touches in the gym before chasing our fitness dreams & she walked right in & said “I wanna be the first member, sign me up.” Since then we’ve watched Maude pursue her passion relentlessly from the CrossFit Games in Madison Wisconsin to the Hyrox World Championships in Stockholm Sweden, all while holding down a full time career in the medical field & never missing a walk with her gang of pups. Maude, you inspire us & everyone around you more than you know. From your crazy tales of your youth to your ultra marathons & everything in between. You’ve watched 2 kids with a dream grow into adults & we both love you more than you know.. GIVE EM HELL! - By Any Means Necessary 🐺 ⚡️ 🤟🏽

𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁…𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲.⁣
⁣
We all understand this:⁣
If you want to reduce your risk of cardiovascular event, you stress the system. You train your heart. You build capacity. You expose it to load so it adapts.⁣
⁣
But when it comes to the spine?⁣
⁣
We do the opposite.⁣
⁣
We avoid bending.⁣
We avoid rotation.⁣
We try to “protect” it by keeping it stiff and neutral 24/7.⁣
⁣
And then we’re surprised when it tweaks picking up a sock.⁣
⁣
Here’s the reality:⁣
Your spine isn’t just built to stabilize…it’s built to move.⁣
⁣
Flexion.⁣
Extension.⁣
Rotation.⁣
And yes, resisting those motions too.⁣
⁣
Health isn’t about avoiding stress.⁣
It’s about appropriately dosing it.⁣
⁣
Because the tissues that never experience load…are the same ones that fail when life demands it.⁣
⁣
So maybe the goal isn’t to “protect your back” at all costs, it’s to prepare it.⁣
⁣
Gradually. Intentionally. In all planes.⁣
⁣
Train your spine like you train your heart

Good time this weekend with the El Paso contingency of David, Rani, Adrian and our new friends from Tularosa @ a CrossFit competition at Thunderhawk CrossFit in Rio, Rancho, New Mexico. Went into the final workout, leading by one point. Needed to place first or second to win the entire comp, ended up placing third in the last workout. Put me in a two-way tie for first. Ended up winning the competition via a tiebreak. Competing in the 55+. It was an honor competing against these guys. Special thanks to Thunderhawk Crossfit for putting on such a well run competition. And thank u Raquel H. For the cardio base that allowed me to get through this competition. Still waiting for the national leaderboard to go up and see how I actually did nationally.
