Last night I had the chance to attend Lilith, a play that reconsiders the Biblical myth of Lilith, the first woman on Earth, from a queer perspective. In truth, I didn’t know about Lilith and how she came before Eve and her choice to leave Adam and the bounty and safety of Eden in order to seek her own freedom and knowledge. The play by Adina Aaron, my Antioch University MFA classmate, was profound in the issues it considers and in the questions it raises around the origin and assumptions of gender roles and sexuality. Although, the play most obviously speaks to issues of gender and sexuality, I found it also spoke to me as a woman in midlife who chose to end her long marriage and, the attitudes of society towards me and my decision. Anyways, much kudos to Adina, the three actors, The Tank, producers, including Bhavani Rao, on this powerful play and I hope it returns to NYC for another run and reaches broader audiences because it provokes the conversations we need to be having in this moment. I loved this powerful line about the way strong knowledgeable women are viewed: “The more you understand, the less you’ll be understood.” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

"Is it possible to love God, as Adam does, without vetoing all other worldviews? Is it possible to love someone without owning them? Is it possible to love someone, and also love someone else at the same time? Lilith says yes." Lilith, a new play written by Adina Aaron and directed by Samantha Ozeas, reimagines the character once again, adding new layers of complexity, dignity, and affection to her story. The production, which runs at The Tank in NYC from August 7-22, explores sexual politics and spiritual conflict in an Eden full of wonder, anger, and longing. Adina Aaron’s LILITH, directed by Samantha Ozeas, is currently running through August 22 at The Tank. Before Eve, there was Lilith — the first woman — who would not bow to Adam or to God’s order. Yet love ties her to the garden as she and Eve forge a bond of desire and defiance. LILITH is a new interpretation of the myth that investigates the gender dynamics, narratives about desire, and embrace of duality which continues to define our culture. REMAINING PERFORMANCES (as of 8/11/26): Wednesday, August 12 @ 7:00pm Thursday, August 13 @ 7:00pm Friday, August 21 @ 7:00pm Saturday, August 22 @ 7:00pm Tickets range from $23 to $43, and are available online at thetanknyc.org. The Tank is located at 312 West 36th Street in the Garment District, not far from Penn Station. @StageSpotlightNYC is the most comprehensive list of theatre and theatre-adjacent performances taking place all over New York City — OFF BROADWAY & BEYOND. One of the things I love most about producing is finding stories I believe in and working with an incredible team to bring them to life. Lilith was one of those stories for me. This summer, I stepped back into theater as the Executive Producer of Lilith, and in just a few weeks we’ll celebrate our world premiere at The Tank in New York City. I can’t wait to share what our cast and creative team have created together. Lilith reimagines the story of the first woman before Eve, exploring identity, autonomy, love, and the courage to choose her own path. It’s bold, thought-provoking, and exactly the kind of story I love being part of. It all starts with the play, and I’m so grateful that Lilith found its way into my life. None of this would be possible without our brilliant playwright Adina Aaron, who trusted us with her powerful vision, our inspiring director Samantha Ozeas, whose care and passion brought that vision to life, and producer Scott Lockwood, whose guidance and commitment have helped shape this production every step of the way. I’m equally grateful to our incredible creative team—Chloe Cuff (Assistant Director), Ash Anderson. (PR & Marketing), Paola Castañeda (Costume Design), Ningning Yang (Scenic Design), and Hannah Kunce(Intimacy Director)—whose creativity, talent, and dedication have made this production stronger every day. And to our wonderful cast—Sofia Victoria Deler (Lilith), Bryanna Marie Felipe (Eve), and Erik Ohno Dagoberg (Adam)—thank you for bringing these characters to life with such honesty, heart, and courage. 🎭 Support the campaign: https://seedandspark.com/fund/lilithplay If making a donation isn’t the right fit right now, sharing our Seed&Spark campaign or following @lilith.theplay on Instagram would mean just as much.

So, here’s what I’m thinking. If you’re seeing this on my feed, you might pause and check it out cuz it’s a cool image and you’re a nice person. Then you might see it’s info for a Very cool play that my Very cool and brave and talented daughter wrote and is getting done with her Very cool and talented artist pals in NYC. Then you might say well I don’t live there but if it were here (wherever you live) I might buy a ticket. Cuz you’re cool and brave and nice and care about the arts. So here’s what I’m thinking- go ahead and donate what you might pay for a ticket or two, as every dollar makes this Happen. And sure, add a Zero or two if you’re able. New fiscal sponsorship opportunity with Women of Color Unite listed in the Update page on their campaign. You’ll be happy you did, promise!!
