The doors are open. 🌿

This week marks the beginning of a new chapter.

We’ve officially passed our Health Department inspection, received final approval from the town, and we’re ready to welcome clients into FERN for our soft opening.

As we settle into our new home, thank you for your patience as we find our rhythm. Our greatest hope is that FERN feels like a place where you can relax, connect, and feel completely at home.

✨ Something beautiful is taking root… 🌿

For quite some time now, Kayla and I have been dreaming about what our businesses could become if we brought them together. Not just under one roof, but around one shared vision.

Hair has always been at the heart of what we do, but we’ve both felt called to create something that goes beyond the appointment. A space where people feel welcomed, cared for, inspired, and truly seen. A place where creativity, wellness, connection, and community can naturally exist together.

After many conversations, countless ideas scribbled on paper, and months of planning, we’re so excited to finally share that we’re combining our businesses and moving into a new home.

This isn’t simply a new salon.

It’s the beginning of something we’ve poured our hearts into.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing the journey with you—the renovations, the behind-the-scenes moments, and the little details that are bringing this vision to life.

We can’t wait to welcome you into the space we’ve been dreaming about.

Biggest compliment ever is doing another dreadlock artist’s maintenance 🥹🫶🏻

Always a good time getting my hands in this crazy head of hair! Kayla has absolutely beautiful dreadlocks that she does “nothing” other than bi yearly maintenance and some separating 😉

Takes me about 2 1/2 hours which doesn’t feel like nearly enough time to catch up 🤣❤️ so good to see you @limelightstudiollc ✨

🎉 Historic Dowe Building Revitalized with Four Businesses in Downtown Danielson 🎉

The historic Dowe Building, a Main Street Danielson landmark since 1927, is alive once again! On Thursday, September 5th, community members, local leaders, and supporters gathered for an exciting ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate four new businesses now occupying this iconic building. The Dowe Building, owned by Jason & Lindsey Verrenault of NorthStar Home Loans, is now fully occupied for the first time in years, marking a major milestone for downtown Danielson.

Jason & Lindsey Verrenault, who own NorthStar Home Loans on the top floor of the building, have worked tirelessly to fill the vacant business spaces with vibrant, new establishments. The community gathered to welcome NorthStar Home Loans, Two Dogs Coffee Shop, Limelight Studios, and The Smoke Shop, all of which have breathed fresh life into Main Street.

The event saw Main Street packed with enthusiastic supporters, as each of the four businesses took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony. Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed an open house, exploring the beautifully restored Dowe Building.

A special thank you goes out to the Northeast CT Chamber of Commerce, the Killingly Business Association, the Town of Killingly, and the Danielson Borough for collaborating on this celebration. Thank you to Senator Mae Flexer, who provided citations to honor these new businesses, recognizing their contributions to the growth and revitalization of the downtown area.

The revitalization of the Dowe Building is a true testament to the entrepreneurial spirit and dedication of Jason & Lindsey Verrenault and the Danielson community. With the building now fully occupied and thriving, Main Street is now buzzing with excitement!

How does this make me feel?

Angry because this is not morally right. It seems anything anybody creates or invents is not protected or respected anymore. Angry because I put my heart and soul into getting this product ethically produced. Angry because I spent 2 months battling severe staph infections contracted from remote Gunu village on my first visit to teach women how to make spiralocks.

Disappointment because Ive spent the last 12 years working so hard to create an ethical product. A product that I purposely always avoided getting mass produced in China. A product I wanted to use to raise up myself and those involved in its creation. A product that changes lives. A product that is made with love and good intent.

Overwhelmed because trying to do what’s morally right in business in this modern world can be really hard, tiring, extremely expensive and sometimes not worth it when its a constant battle against those with little or no morals. Overwhelmed because its impossible to compete in price with China factory made rip-offs.

It also makes me feel important. Strangely enough, I feel important enough to have my product that I invented including the name spiralock featured all over the world, being copied on platforms including etsy, aliexpress, temu and shein. My designs, my fabric and now even my photo used to sell 1000’s of a product I invented. I feel important that I started all this.

Im also feeling grateful. Grateful of all that Spiralocks has brought me, taught me and provided for our beautiful 7 extended families in Gunu, Fiji. The adventures its brought my own family to Fiji. All the connections Ive made through spiralocks. The love and support we receive every day from all our loyal customers and all those ethical businesses who keep supporting small ethical products to keep us growing.

Im taking the positives from this and moving on to bring bigger and better things for spiralocks, the original for 2024.

Drove an hour out to see Kayla (@limelightstudiollc) and got to get my hands on this fuzzy head 🤩 she has sooooo much hair! I cleaned up all 80ishh of her roots in 2 1/2 hours and added in a cute little wrap onto a dread!

Kayla cleaned up my crazy mess (I recently added more dreadlocks and they had a mind of their own 😆) and added in a cute wrap onto one of my dreads!

Loved seeing you and catching up 🥰 your new space looks amazing!!
