Literary fiction is a genre that is often misunderstood, so I thought I’d do a post to clear some things up!

Frequently written in conjunction with other genres, literary fiction is not so much a standalone genre. You can find it blended with fantasy and romance, for example. However, if these five aspects are front and center while you’re reading the novel, then it is first and foremost LitFic!

Did this image make it into the final book… or did it get left on the workshop floor? 👀📖

One of my favourite parts of making The Big Questions: Who Was Leonardo da Vinci? is building these “little windows” into his world — candlelight, ink, notebooks, sketches… and that almost impossible idea that humans could borrow the sky.

If you’ve got a curious kid (or you are the curious kid), this book is made to feel like standing beside Leonardo as he asks: “What if?”

📚☕️Newport Reading Retreat 2025☕️📚

When @lindasbookedup said she was planning a couple days away to relax and read and asked if I’d like to come along—YES!

So off we went to Newport, RI for 3 days, where we:

* were offered “wine and cheese” but ended up with some Seagrams wine coolers
* had a couple lovely dinners out that included a “snowball in hell”
* lounged about with no agenda
* visited 3 different coffee shops
* swam outside in the pouring rain (well, I did anyway)
* wandered through some local shops
* napped
* talked all things books (and more)
* read to our hearts’ content

One hundred percent recommend grabbing a friend or two and planning your own reading retreat.
