Great design does not exist in isolation. It is shaped by ideas, challenged by different perspectives, and strengthened through the exchange of knowledge. For the MMXXVI Awards of Excellence, we brought together an extraordinary international jury of architects, interior designers, academics, critics, and creative leaders whose work helps define the world we live in.

From established practices with decades of influence to emerging voices challenging convention, the jury represented a remarkable breadth of disciplines, cultures, geographies, and approaches. Reaching across continents, we invited experts whose perspectives extended far beyond their own fields, spanning architecture, interiors, sculptural objects, landscapes, furniture, research, teaching, making, building, curating, writing, and advocacy.

Together, they brought a depth of experience that made the judging process as much an exchange of ideas as an assessment of excellence. Their collective knowledge, instinct, and ambition set an exceptional standard for this year’s Awards, reflecting the extraordinary breadth and possibility of design today.

About a year ago I remember sitting with @thetravelingqipao to chat about a new project she was working on called @chinamoderne - a place where her obsession for Chinese contemporary design could live, with her partner @dianadzheng it quickly grew, becoming not just a stunning account showcasing the best of Chinese design, but a place for deeper conversations with incredible Chinese designers like @xieke.505 - And now, at a feast this week at @inandout_chn they have launched their first tour route in Yunnan: the Dali Edit, meant to showcase the most beautiful hotels, design and vistas of one of my favourite destinations in China. I couldn't be more excited for these two, give @chinamoderne a follow - I can't wait to see how they inspire me next.

The Dusit Thani Hotel occupied one of the most recognizable corners of Bangkok's Silom district until it was demolished. Central Park now stands on that site: a 40,000 sqm (430,000 sq ft) retail and dining podium by Linehouse, anchoring a mixed-use complex of hotel, residential and office towers.

What makes the project worth reading closely is how the history is handled. Rather than a plaque or a salvaged fragment, the reference is structural — three metal-clad voids run through the podium as circulation cores, turning the memory of what was lost into the way the building is crossed.

More than just a shopping mall, Central Park adds a green oasis to Bangkok’s urban sprawl

Designed by @line___house, the six-floor retail complex inside a larger hotel, residential and office development – may be proof that this type of shopping mall is becoming a new norm. Different floors dedicated to different categories of shopping are punctuated by plantings and natural materials that change per floor, assisting with way finding.

Old bones. New life.

Together with Shanghai-based design studio @line___house, the former Tai Wah Garments & Knitting Factory has been thoughtfully reimagined, with subtle nods to its industrial past woven throughout the space.

On the first floor, a rope installation runs the length of the space, a thread back to the pulley systems of its garment-making days, weaving together a new generation of brands, makers and pop-ups.

Upstairs, five food concepts gather around a canopy inspired by traditional attap roofs, in a dining hall washed in the pinks and greens of hawker platters past.

Steel, rope and a little nostalgia. Come find your way in.

No window? No problem.✨

One of the most common challenges in interior design is the lack of natural light, especially in bathrooms, where it’s often overlooked. But instead of fighting the darkness, the key is to work with it.

Whether through layered lighting, reflective surfaces, glass bricks, or embracing a moody atmosphere, a windowless bathroom can still feel warm, elevated, and inviting. Sometimes great design isn’t about adding more light, but about using it intentionally.

Which solution is your favorite?👀
