Oh, I’m going to miss my studio.🥹 This home gave me a space to learn, create and smile with so many families, kids and pets.

It started as a large white cloth in a spare room, and ended with the formal dining room remodeled into a home studio/office/edit bay. During construction, I kept the gorgeous and original hand-crafted crown molding to honor the house and the owners before us.

I’m not sure what will become of @liouslens when we move back to the Bay Area. I realize a home studio isn’t realistic there. I never post my in-the-field photoshoots, but I do plenty of those… so that’s a possibility. Maybe one day soon, I’ll be back behind Liou’s Lens. 📸

Thank you for your support over the last 3 years. 🩵🩵🩵

March has been celebration, preparation, buckets of gratitude, time with my people, deep breaths, fresh air and joy.

Trimester three has been a whole adventure of interesting walking, bathroom runs and heavy breathing (lol). It’s wild to know we’re counting down the weeks until Baby Nug gets here, and I’m just grateful for the people in my life who make me feel so seen, known and cared for and the surreal magic of all of this.

I still can’t believe this season. Gosh, I’m so thankful 🩷

Hi 🩷 lots of new faces on here so I thought I’d drop in and say hello with a few things about me that are not cancer related. Thank you for following me as I heal.

1. I’m married to the most supportive spouse. I don’t know that I would’ve handled staying in this business this long if I didn’t have his support especially in those early days. Being married to someone in TV News should be an Olympic sport.
2. We have two dogs. Millie, a 9 year old yellow lab. She’s so smart and athletic. Aspen, an 8 year old chocolate lab. She’s gentle and always by my side. They make the best running partners and they love a good swim. I’ve been know to blow off plans because I want to be with my dogs 🙃 pic by @liouslens
3. I enjoy movement. My favorite is lifting weights. I also enjoy cycling and running with Peloton. I taught weight lifting group fitness classes when I was in my early 20s and that gave me a deep knowledge and foundation. I have still been lifting, but I get tired a lot faster these days.
4. I don’t remember a time I didn’t love the weather. That led me to studying meteorology at Texas A&M. I’ve been a broadcast meteorologist for over 11 years now. I’ve covered every type of weather in several states but mostly my home state of Texas.
5. I have a deep love of travel and appreciation for other cultures. This will be the first year we don’t travel outside the country together.
6. I’m a first generation Mexican-American. I’m so proud of the sacrifices my parents made in order for my brother and I to live the lives we do. Their finish line was my starting line. I don’t take it for granted. My mentality is “I get to” not I have to. I thank my parents for that.

I have breast cancer.

Even saying it still feels surreal. Maybe the more I say it, the more real it will feel — I’ll let you know.

The past week has been heavy. From feeling crummy after treatment, to sharing my diagnosis with more of you, to witnessing the devastating flooding in Central Texas — a place I hold close to my heart after years working in Austin. There’s been a lot of pain. But also, so much love.

I feel that love every day — from the community that’s walked alongside me since day one, to the resilience I see in Texans facing hardship right now.

Today is treatment 6 of 16. Let’s do this.

In case you missed it:
About a month after my 33rd birthday, I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer — an aggressive form that grows quickly but is treatable. The outlook is positive, and I have an incredible team guiding me through this fight. Still, it’s a tough road.

This has been deeply personal and hard to share, but I feel it’s important to do so — especially if it helps even one person.

I found the lump during a routine self-exam. That moment changed my life.
Please, check yourself. Trust your body. Trust your gut. Cancer doesn’t care about how “healthy” you are. I was in the best shape of my life, with zero symptoms and no family history.

Things moved fast after my diagnosis: fertility preservation, port surgery(see 2nd pic), multiple oncology consults — and chemo began just 18 days later. It’s been a whirlwind. One I’m still catching my breath from.

I may share more about those early days later. For now, I just want to say thank you — for the love, for the support, for being here with me.

We keep going. 💗
