🕊️ THE AMEN ROLLER THAT TURNED A HAÇIENDA MEMORY INTO D&B IMMORTALITY 🤍

🎵 MARCUS INTALEX – TEMPERANCE
📀 Soul:r | SOULR015 | 2004

Some records chase the future by forgetting the past.

Temperance did the opposite.

Glowing synths. A vocal in the haze. Then the Amen arrives under control exploding around a bassline engineered for heart and soundsystem.

Soulful yet heavyweight. Nostalgic yet futuristic.

That contradiction was Marcus Intalex.

🤯 And here’s the incredible part…

“Temperance” wasn’t merely an evocative title.

It was a Thursday night at Manchester’s legendary Haçienda, launched by DJ Dave Haslam in May 1986. The reverse, “Zumbar”, was named after another Haçienda night.

Eighteen years later, Mark encoded those memories into SOULR015: post-punk, house, rave, jungle and future sharing one piece of vinyl.

🧬 DEEP VAULT DETAIL: Founded by Marcus and ST Files in 2001, Soul:r rejected disposable music for patient, handcrafted records and impeccable quality control.

Marcus wanted its name to sound more “thoughtful” and “mature”. SOUL carried the emotion; the colon and R retained the Drum & Bass edge.

Temperance was the perfect manifesto. The Amen break was surrounded by warm harmony, negative space and aching restraint, proof that beautiful music could still strike with devastating force.

Soul:r gave an early platform to Calibre, Break, Alix Perez, Icicle, S.P.Y and LSB. Mark didn’t only leave extraordinary records, he created space for others to become extraordinary.

🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: Some artists leave memories of a night. Mark left an entire musical universe to keep discovering. Welcoming him to Jersey will always be part of our history, but through records like Temperance, his spirit continues reaching new ears, new rooms and new generations.

Marcus once said that if music had only been about money, he would have stopped. For him, it was about “leaving a legacy.”

🕊️ DEAR MARCUS… THAT LEGACY IS STILL GROWING.

22 YEARS LATER… TEMPERANCE STILL MOVES THE SOUL AND SHAKES THE ROOM.

🎵 DJ Marky & XRS feat. Vikter Duplaix – Moments of Lust
📀 Innerground Records | 2004

Released on Innerground, Moments of Lust captured DJ Marky & XRS at the height of that unmistakable early-2000s Brazilian D&B sound: warm bass, effortless groove, crisp rolling drums and soul woven through every bar.

The masterstroke was Vikter Duplaix. His intimate vocal gave the record a sensual, almost late-night quality rarely heard in Drum & Bass at the time, turning an already beautiful roller into something genuinely distinctive. Even before release, fans on Dogs On Acid were actively hunting the tune, and when it finally landed in March 2004 it even crossed into the UK singles chart, reaching No. 92 remarkable for such an underground record.

It also became part of the wider Innerground golden era, alongside records like Breeze, Backspin and Soul Samba. Years later, Innerground would revisit Moment of Lust through Makoto’s remix, confirming how enduring the original had become within soulful D&B culture.

🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: This is everything we love about soulful Drum & Bass music with warmth, movement and genuine feeling. No gimmicks, no unnecessary aggression… just timeless groove from two producers operating at an extraordinary level.

🖤 Soulful enough for the headphones. Heavy enough for the dancefloor.

🎵 Solid State – Just A Vision (Marcus Intalex & ST Files Remix)
📀 Renegade Recordings | 2000

At the turn of the millennium, DNB was splitting into different directions. While many producers were pushing darker, more aggressive sounds, Marcus Intalex & ST Files were quietly creating something different, music built on groove, soul and impeccable engineering.

Their remix of Just A Vision became one of the defining records of that movement.

Everything about it feels effortless. The drums are crisp yet understated, the bassline carries a subtle garage-inspired swing, and the vocal is used with remarkable restraint. Rather than overpowering the track, every element breathes, creating a groove that feels as fresh today as it did over two decades ago. It wasn’t about complexity for the sake of it, it was about making every sound count.

🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: We were incredibly proud to bring Marcus Intalex to Jersey during the early years of our events . Nights like those weren’t simply events they were a chance to experience the finest musical minds DNB has ever produced. Marcus’s legacy continues to inspire generations, and his influence can still be heard in countless records being made today. Big love to St Files 🫶

🖤 Some remixes are forgotten… others become the definitive version.
