💥 renee torres of @mojave_art presents “The Miracle of Love,” the fruit of a seven-year journey through self-exploration, spiritual searching, and the slow rebirth of a new mindset and way of living. The visual language of this series draws from the protest posters of the 1960s and ‘70s and is on view at mojaveart.com.

HEROES — A GROUP EXHIBITION EXPLORING THE WAY WE CREATE, CELEBRATE AND INFLUENCE IN THE TIME OF GREED AND POWER.

Bringing together artists and designers from our international community, HEROES reflects on our distinct histories and experiences as a strength, and our responsibility as artists to question and activate. It challenges the ideas of power and identity, while looking toward making as a form of agency — where the act of creating is a way of resistance.

Each work is a small refusal against passivity and sameness. To create is to resist, and within itself, a necessary act of rebellion. We are all heroes.

Open Wednesdays through Saturdays [12-6 pm] and Tuesdays by appointment.

Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of organizing a wonderful FDC showcase with WORKSTEAD! Together, we exchanged ideas, glasses of wine, and inspiration for future collaborations. 🥂

ZAROLAT is proud to present HEROES — the 12th curation of the gallery, now open in DUMBO Design District. The group exhibition brings together 12 artists and designers from the gallery’s international community, presenting one-of-a-kind and limited edition works of furniture, lighting, sculpture, objects, and artworks, exploring the ways we create, celebrate and influence.

HEROES takes its cue from Don Perlis’ painting ‘Epstein Dreaming of his Heroes’, which marks the artist’s first presentation at the gallery. The show considers ‘the hero’ not simply as a figure of admiration, but as a reflection of the values, ambitions, and contradictions of the world that creates them. In today’s world, who do we call heroes? HEROES embraces this tension by challenging ideas of power and identity, while looking toward art and design as a form of agency — where the act of creating becomes a way to question, resist, and ultimately push back against structures of power.

Oooh! The energy at the opening was infectious! Thank you to everyone who came out! Artist’s families—mommas and daddies and cousins came. Current RISD students and their families came. Trustees came. Featherstone leadership was in attendance. Martha’s Vineyard year-round and summer residents came. Exuberance abounded! What a time! Co-curating with Mark Moscone was beyond fun (he’s in the second photo—grinning). We see things so differently. So it was both a learning experience and a deeply collaborative one, the very best kind! (I loved helping the installation team; seeing them work and doing what little I could to help —and not get in the way 🙄 — further solidified my deep respect for their expertise.) I hope a teeny bit the joyfulness at the event peeks through in these photos! We think between 150-200 people came out on Sunday. If you’re on MV, get ye to the show. It’s up until August 16. You’ll be happy you did.

Sunday was a wonderful opening to RISD Emerging: Recent Alums from Rhode Island School of Design on Martha’s Vineyard! Here’s **some of the work. As is always the case, RISD alums exceed expectations, inspire marvel and joy, and incite conversation and curiosity. I (and we) are so thankful for them all! The work is tagged so you may follow the artists. In the next post, I’ll share pictures of the event. So much good energy, joy and admiration! Go, go, RISD alums, go! I’m so thrilled to introduce this work and our precious institution to people on the island. Lathed hand-shaped steamed sand-blasted and fumed voluminous solid wood vessels fashioned from green Irish oak by @alanmeredith_studio so thin and finely executed they're remarkable to behold, let alone believe they even exist.
