Jesus first, happily married, proud mama

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Today, my sweet grandparents, Stig and Sally Broman celebrate 69 years of marriage. 🫶

It’s impossible to overstate the example they have been in not just my life, but the lives of their three children, their children’s spouses, their 6 grandchildren, their grandchildren’s spouses, and now their going-on-6 great-grandchildren. They have built something so beautiful by being so faithful with every season of their lives, in the way they have loved God, each other, and their families so well. I know also that their example extends far beyond our family to anyone who has ever known them.

Theirs is the most precious marriage I’ve ever had the honor of bearing witness to. I’m not exaggerating when I say I have watched them my entire life and have only seen selfless love and patience.

If you were at my wedding you might remember my grandpa sharing his “chipped cup” story about how he always makes sure to give himself the chipped cup and give my grandma the best one. That is just one example he lives by to show the power of putting each other before yourselves.

I’ll forever be thankful we did this photo shoot with @sandyswaggerphoto 9 years ago for their 60th. 9 years later they don’t look exactly the same… they are both 90, they don’t get out as easily, and grandma has had some fast changes, she doesn’t communicate the same as she used to, and she leans on my grandpa for a lot more physical support, but she still has a twinkle in her eye when she looks at him.

Both of them love God and each other with their whole hearts, and it’s evident to see in the way they love and live. They are an inspiration to us all. I’m so thankful to be celebrating another year of their love. ❤️

Scroll for some of the beautiful photos from their 60th anniversary shoot, a sweet video from grandma’s 90th birthday last July, and of course, two of their epically beautiful wedding photos from 1957.

I can’t help but gush over them. 🥲❤️

Mother’s Day has been complicated for most of my life, but while this day reminds me of difficult circumstances, it also is impossible to let grief and sadness fully overshadow the grace of God that this day reminds me of. I have something new to write about it every year because mothering, grief, and the goodness of God in the midst of lack has been and continues to be so integral in my life. I write because even here in the waiting, I carry as much gratitude as I do grief. And I must honor that, too.

Losing my mom to cancer at age 9 is a part of my story, but it’s also true, that I never lacked nurture. I was never lacking love.

And that’s thanks to all the women in my life who picked up the pieces, grabbed the baton, who found ways to “mother” even when it wasn’t their role.

When I hear the phrase, “it takes a village”, I’m reminded of my 4th grade teacher (who had me in her class the year my mom died) who bought me quality scrapbooking supplies so that I’d stop using glue sticks on my mom’s photos in the back of her class…

She could have also told me to stop “scrapbooking” during math… but she didn’t.

She was a mother, but she wasn’t my mother. That didn’t stop her.

I think of the private school principal who would take my sister and I out of class to sit with us and read us stories. Who would give us so much love and extra hugs and show us kindness far beyond her job description…

She was a mother, but she wasn’t my mother. That didn’t stop her.

I think of the countless women who showed up with casserole dishes and cleaned our house, babysat us for free, took us to the pool, or chuck-e-cheese, during the summer… many of them mothers, not ours, some of them single women, but they “mothered” us with their love, their nurture, their kindness.

I think of my Aunt Linda and my Grandma who picked up all of the slack, did our school shopping, fed us multiple times a week, and surrounded us with so much love. Who prayed over us constantly and even loved me through my pervasive eye roll and trying to get away with buying “much too adult clothing” phase.

Happy Easter! 💛💛💛💛

Today and every day we celebrate the risen Jesus who was and is and will forever be victorious over sin and death and all the evils and hardships of this world.

We don’t celebrate Easter because life is perfect and we never have doubts or walk through struggles, we celebrate because He is our hope, our closest friend, the one who never leaves or forsakes us. Our faith is not centered on our circumstances, but on Him, the only firm foundation.

Without Jesus, I would still have all of my doubts, all of my questions, all of my heartache, ALL of my disappointment in people — but I wouldn’t have HIM.

And with HIM, I can face it all.
And so can you. 🫶🏼

Thankful for His peace, for the freedom found in Him. Thankful for His mercy and grace. Thankful for His ever present help in trouble. Thankful He’s not done with you and me, and He’s not done with His church, either. He is moving and shaking things up like He always does, He is breathing new life on His people in ways we don’t even expect.

He is risen. Jesus is alive. 🫶🏼

March 💛 pictures and things //

“And all of the ashes of my life
All of the pain and all the strife
All of the pages You’ll rewrite
You always lead me to the light
All of the years the locusts stole
All of the time I didn’t dare to hope
You will return a hundredfold
You will return a hundredfold”

December 2025 ❤️✨🪩 | Merry Christmas + Happy New Year

December held a lot of sweet moments and memories, and being off social media made room to feel all of it. It was a little uninformed, out of the loop, and oftentimes it felt lonely, but as I look back at these photos and run out of the 20 tags you get to tag people in your posts, I realize it wasn’t actually lonely at all.

Think I’m going to make this an annual tradition. ❤️

Happy 2026, everyone!

November //

Celebrated 30 lbs down 🥳

Launched @theabidingcollective into the world - something that has only existed in me and @bryonlovesnaps dreams and conversations for years… genuinely, thank you to all who have encouraged us in this area. So much more to come.

So much precious family time. More thankful for them than ever these days.

Led worship more this month than we have in quite a while. Lots of quality time and togetherness. 🥰

Met a challenge at my gym and was consistent with my workouts this month despite sickness and crazy schedules.

Took stock of so much healing that has been done and all that we have to be grateful for in the midst of waiting and what still feels like “wilderness seasons” sometimes.

God is constantly showing us He can be trusted with our surrender.

❤️

The first time grief came for me was 25 years ago today.

We were robbed.
We wanted more time.
We should have had it.
We deserved so much more time.

The offender? Cancer? Satan? This fallen world? All of the above?

It wasn’t God.
It wasn’t that we didn’t pray hard enough or have enough faith. It wasn’t any of our fault.

The aftermath? Two motherless daughters, a wifeless father… the complete shaking of our entire world.

Nothing would ever be the same again.
And yet, God was truly, incredibly, faithful.

And, we made it through.

A group of friends were talking recently about the events in our lives that had threatened to break our faith, and I ended up sharing that I think my testimony is that those events that could have broken my faith are actually what built it… I’ve never had faith that wasn’t built on a foundation of who God IS rather than what God DOES.

Let me explain…

Since I was 9, I’ve known firsthand that life often doesn’t go the way we want it to.

(Yes there is still kicking and screaming when it doesn’t… but I have always deeply known this.)

And please don’t mistake this for having enough faith, I’m fully aware of His power to do miracles.

It’s just that… I’ve never quite been able to bypass the unanswered prayers for a mom who didn’t get healed from cancer this side of heaven.

My faith from that moment on, had to be built with that reality in mind: sometimes we don’t get what we want.

But that doesn’t diminish His goodness.

And, very often, the miracles I witnessed over these last 25 years have been in the redemption and healing He has brought to our family’s story, and, His closeness, His peace, His comfort while we were in the thick of it.

I learned His power despite grief and loss.
Not in the shiny and happy outcomes… but in finding intimacy with Jesus in the middle of the darkest nights… in the corner of the funeral home by the coat rack. In every hard, holy, and beautiful day since.

He met me. And I learned His presence. His nearness. It kept me.
