You know that moment when you reach into your pocket and instantly know whether it’s a coin, a key, or a crumpled tissue — without even looking? ✋ 👀

That’s tactile discrimination and the brain’s ability to interpret and differentiate touch sensations through the skin.

When children explore textures through messy play — squishing, squeezing, patting, and feeling — they’re building vital connections between their skin receptors and their brain - developing their sensory processing skills.

These experiences provide amazing opportunities for the brain to recognise differences in texture, size, shape, temperature, and pressure.

Strong tactile discrimination helps children:
✋ Identify objects without using their eyes (like finding a toy in a messy box)
✏️ Control hand pressure when writing or drawing
👕 Manage self-care skills like doing up buttons or zips
🧦 Tolerate different clothing fabrics and sensory experiences

So the next time your child dives hands-first into slime, paint, or shaving foam… remember — it’s not just play. It’s tactile training for the brain. And better still, find an amazing group like @littleboxc who creates and prepares these awesome activities for you and your little one! 🙌🏼❤️

We are very sad to announce that the family event due to take place at the Horse and Bamboo Theatre in Waterfoot tomorrow has been cancelled! This new Playfully Creative collaboration between Sarah @daisychain_alternativesoftplay and Kirsty @littleboxc just didn’t sell enough tickets to be able to run, even though the feedback has been so positive.

We really believe in our product and so we’re wondering if you could help us to understand what went wrong?

🐝 The date/day being a Sunday/the last Sunday of the summer holidays?
🐝 Being new, was there not enough information?
🐝 Was the pricing wrong?
🐝 Were we visible on social media?
🐝 Did we advertise too late?
🐝 Was it the location? …

Your feedback is really important to us 🫶🏻

Please accept our apology for those left disappointed who did book onto the event and thank you for your support! 💛You have all been individually emailed and fully refunded. Please keep an eye out for future events….We both absolutely love the autumnal spooky season🍁🍄 👻🎃 and there is magic to be discovered in winter ❄️✨🧖‍♀️🫧
