Happy Lunar New Year! 🎊
Enjoy these fun facts:

1) Lunar New Year is celebrated by 1/4 of the world's population and is a celebration across many cultures. 🏮

2) In China, it is also known as 'Spring Festival' to welcome in the start of spring in the Chinese Lunar calendar.
In Vietnam, it is called Tết.
In Korea, it is known as Seollal.
It is celebrated in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Cambodia and in many cities around the world. 🌏

3) Every New Year starts a new zodiac animal's year. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger. 🐯

There was nothing but tears as I opened up a beautiful box from @themannchens @live.as.lions to see the sweetest little peg dolls I had ordered of Penelope and I, denim jackets and lion heads included ❤️ I’m going to let you in on a little secret…the adoption community is AMAZING! I mean, there are no words to truly describe the beautiful souls you meet throughout the adoption process, whether it be domestic or international. I’m so thankful and grateful for all the fellow adoptive parents/families who have come beside me to give hope and encouragement during this season of waiting ✨

i’m an (insert derogatory prefix) hopeless optimist to many of you,
a bleeding heart if you will.
this i know.
but i’m okay with that.
i’d rather cling to optimism and what the world views as an unattainable hope, than give up the good fight.

what we do here will never be enough.
i will always wish we could do more.
nothing anybody says will change that.
no matter how much we do, i will always always wish it were more.

in this yucky haze and pain i sit in, i look at your back to school pictures with our buttons, pins, and patches adhered on jackets and backpacks, and somehow squeeze out a tiny smile of gratitude.

a tiny glimmer of that hope i speak of washes over me.

because i see so many kids who are living out the greatest dreams of those who went before them.
their ancestors who too were hopelessly optimistic.

and that is more than enough fire for me to keep up the fight.
to keep doing more.
to keep being better.
to keep clinging to hope.

to the kids in Afghanistan, Haiti, and countless other nations in pain, where back to school doesn’t look like this, and to the kids in our own country who are helpless and alone, know that we are doing all we can to change your future.

i promise we won’t give up on you.
don’t give up on us. 🧡

Liz is an artist and musician currently based in Atlanta, Georgia after living abroad for the last 14 years. ⁠⁠

Alongside her husband Uli and daughter Bo Bei, the trio forms an international family of dreamers lovingly learning how to make space for all of their cultures and personalities — Liz from the US, Uli from Germany and Bo Bei from China.
