This is a much easier way to hook up your water tub without having to go into your enclosure.

A 12 hour light and 12 hour dark cycle is the standard recommendation for ETBs and it is easy to set up once and forget about. The part worth paying attention to is how consistent that cycle actually is over time and what happens when it is not.

The circadian system in reptiles responds to light intensity and timing as the primary biological clock signal. Irregular schedules, lights left on accidentally, room light bleeding into the enclosure during the dark period, or frequent disruptions to the cycle can blunt these biological cues in ways that do not always show up as obvious symptoms. Suppressed appetite, altered behavioral patterns, and disrupted hormonal cycling are all potential downstream effects of a photoperiod that looks correct on paper but is inconsistent in practice.

Setting up timers on every light source, checked periodically to confirm they are actually running on schedule. No light sources active during the nighttime period, including colored night bulbs, dim LED strips, or ambient room light leaking through enclosure panels. Even low level illumination during the dark period can disrupt circadian rhythms and suppress natural feeding behavior in a species that is most active after dark.

If you would like to mimic natural lighting sequences you can try the following! The near infrared heat source, meaning the halogen or tungsten lamp, should come on first at the start of the light period, followed by the visible light source and any UVB tube approximately 45 minutes later. The reverse sequence at the end of the day more closely mimics sunset. It is a small detail that adds a layer of naturalism and is straightforward to implement with a second timer.

Are you running timers on all your light sources?
