Reading widely, from different eras and cultures, broadens our creative taste buds which helps curb an addiction to the carousel of trending inspirational fast food we consume online these days.

Books support creative longevity much more than a viral reel or a Pinterest AI mockup ever could and, more importantly, they support years of work from another human being, who has taken the time to share their creativity with you.

ChatGPT, Pinterest, and Google aren’t going anywhere and they aren’t always bad, but…
people > robots,
books > screens,
always.

Still sitting in the afterglow of last night’s intimate, tender reading with @lizbellyoung.

Let There Be Havens is a book about genuine connection and welcome—about resisting pretense and performance in a culture obsessed with perfection. About offering care with whatever you already have.

And on *this* rainy, sleepy night… in a small, out-of-the-way bookstore, and before a modest audience, she was living proof of her thesis. Liz turned the traditional author-event format (I talk, you listen) on its side, de-centering herself or the promotion of her book to create space where everyone in the room felt seen and worthy of contribution. A haven. 🪺

It was truly a gift to witness this kind of authenticity and generosity. May her example and this book serve as a guide and a gentle companion to all of us who hope to move through the world with more kindness, humility, and light. ✨

We have many signed copies in store for savoring or gifting.

The past few days have just been so happy and fulfilling. Sweetest slow time with my sidecar-sister Liz, book exploration work (and the best potato soup!) with precious, stunning Shalie and plenty of cuddle time with a certain Honey pup. Mind is reenergized and heart is all filled up to overflowing. Love you, @lizbellyoung and @shalieschacht 💓

I had a consultation with a young family yesterday who are trying to cut down clutter, get organized, and prep their house to bring home a puppy. While there were multiple action steps that emerged from our time together, I found myself repeating something I’ve had to internalize myself:

✨ Be aware of the season you are in, and remember it will change. Prioritize what matters, accept the restraints of this particular season, and do the best you can. ✨

I think this is valuable information for anyone, but it’s especially helpful to remember if you have young kids at home. Many of us long for perfectly organized and labeled bins 🤚, but perhaps the best your family can do right now is just getting the items off the floor and into baskets so they’re out of sight. You may have to ignore the urge to sort it all for a while. Can it just be enough that it’s “put away?” In a few years, you’ll have more options and they’ll have more capacity to help.

While it might not be your ideal, this half-way job might allow you to quiet the space enough to experience peace or connection without chaos, and isn’t that what you REALLY want?! 🥹

I’ve been slowly chipping away at our closets and cupboards, paring down and reorganizing, but I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to avoid these random catch-alls entirely. The key for me (in this season) is to figure out how we can peaceably cohabitate, which generally means, I just have to let them live where I can’t see them. 😜 Someday I’m sure I’ll definitely, totally be organized, but in the meantime, here’s what’s hiding under the coffee table.

Day # 2412. Extraordinary Moments. Sabbath Sunday. Several weeks ago I was given a book that I have been reading during this lenten season. It’s not a book about lent but my desire during this season is less noise and this book is focused o the word haven. It’’s such a beautiful word. As I write and think about this on a rainy Sunday morning. I continue to be drawn in this season of life to desire to create haven’s. I have experienced so many haven’s in my own life over the years and my desire is to do the same for others. #livefromrstnotrush #realifemoments #havens #sabbathsunday #sundaysabbath

Quick living room before and after! Swipe to see 👀Also, I’m sharing just a little bit of what we’ve had going on over here for the past couple of weeks:

1 & 2: Let’s play a little game of spot the differences in our living room renovation’s before and after shots. (Also, note to self to remove the lens cap from my back pocket before handing over my camera.)

3: In Barrett’s 15th week, we finally finished the nursery! Well, almost. I’m not loving how high the focal point of this gallery wall is over the chair rail, so I bought smaller frames so we can move it down 6”.

5: My Uncle Bill is being ordained this May, and after the journey he’s been on, we couldn’t be happier for him. His late wife (my mom’s sister) was my Godmother, so it felt incredibly special for Uncle-Deacon-Father Bill to baptize our Barrett.

6: Not to worry—the cabinets and countertops were completely unscathed!

7: Few lunches top a @homedepot hot dog (my usual is a Polish and kraut). Our next home project is now in progress!!

8: This little squish is giving Michelin man. You should see those arm rolls 🥹🥰.

Honestly, I haven’t posted much lately because I didn’t know what to say since the fires broke out in LA. There are so many people on here whose homes, businesses, and families have been affected, and then there are the people who say they can relate because they’ve survived a house fire, and I’m over here speechless because what can you actually say when watching such devastation at a distance?

We’ve been living our simple lives over here in Illinois, thankful the sun finally came out and that we got a pretty dusting of snow.

Hoping and praying for health, safety, and happiness to everyone out there. 🤍
