2025, what a year…

The end of 2025 marks our first full year in business. Building Mend Mother has given me so much purpose. We feel all the feels here- joy, stress, optimism, existential dread. It is by no means the easy route, actually it might be the path of most resistance.

Not to be dramatic, but…

The 10 years I’ve spent working in the apparel industry, have, at times left me feeling totally disenfranchised by the waste, abuse, lack of recognition for craftspeople, disregard for the environment, and overproduction of cheap goods.

BUT repair is optimism, problem solving, and essential piece of a circular economy.

Textiles surround us in our everyday lives (you’re not walking around naked everyday let’s be honest) and the materials used to create our clothes are precious. It is always worth finding a way to fix something and we will be here to help.

Our view has always been to think global and act local.

I hate paying google and meta for marketing because this business is so personal. Participating in pop-ups and workshops has brought us so close to our community and y’all keep showing up!

Habits can take a long time to change, but know that every garment we repair and alter for you displaces waste from our landfills and environment. It’s living proof that you can make an impact everyday dang day!!!!! Thank you for trusting us with your most intimate belongings and heirlooms it is a true honor.

This year alone we helped teach over 60 people practical sewing skills. That’s like so many people it’s kinda hard for me to wrap my mine around how I did that (to be fair there were some mental breakdowns and hysteria mixed in there).

We grew this year from just me (Maddy) and hired 3 contractors who have been the engine behind our growth and I couldn’t be doing this without them. @lizlando @gaellelaforest @sydney.i.brown_

This year we want to keep on keeping on and reach with as many of our tentacles to promote sustainability and make clothing repair accessible and approachable for you all.

Easy, breezy, handmade lounging pants 💘

These pants were pretty simple and easy to make—everything that went into them:

🪡 1.5 yards of white lightweight canvas cotton secondhand fabric
🪡 24” blue twill tape
🪡 9” white invisible zipper
🪡 fusible interface
🪡 white polyester thread

+ 5 hours of my life :)

A bee, a phone call, a puppy… just as in meditation, when a distraction appears you must acknowledge it and let it go as quickly as it came.

This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118: 24)
Este es el día que hizo el Señor;
regocijémonos y alegrémonos en él. (Salmos 118:24)
Dies ist der Tag, den der HERR macht; lasset uns freuen und fröhlich darinnen sein. (Psalm 118:24)
