The final workshop as part of our celebration of Community & Heritage in Killanne today, with funding and support from Wexford County Council through the Creative Ireland programme. ‘The Book of Killanne’ is almost complete, after a hard summers work from all in our community and beyond who collaborated on it! A great crowd turned out throughout the day, to work with artists Liz Rackard & Mick O’Dea, to showcase their memories, thoughts and what is important to them about Killanne. A fantastic day, showcasing what community is all about, working together! So many stories, chats, connections, photos and memories were shared, making it a very special project. Huge thanks to the artists Liz & Mick for all of their guidance, help & support throughout the project! Thanks to Leah, Creative engagement officer with Wexford County Council, who also joined us. And a special thanks to all who attended, with some travelling from Galway, Dublin, Kilkenny & Wicklow to play their part in this very special project! We will soon have the date for final pages to be submitted & the launch of ‘The Book of Killanne’ will take place in November! We will keep you all posted once we have the final details!

‘The Book of Killanne’ is really beginning to come to life now, with lots of ideas, memories, great stories and fantastic creative work! Thanks to artists Liz Rackard & Mick O’Dea for their time and dedication with us today in our creative workshop, it’s amazing to watch the creative process with the ideas & thoughts coming together, to create some beautiful pages which will make up part of ‘The Book of Killanne’. It was great to see some people who came along for the first time today and went home inspired and in search of photos, old tools and farming implements that might be included. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to take part in this unique project, our next workshop date will be Saturday 5th September, all are welcome!

This Saturday morning, 10am-1pm, in Killanne Hall, will see the next of our Creative Workshops on ‘The Book of Killanne’. Come along & have your chance to be involved….What is it that is special about Killanne to you?….Is it a certain place, people past or present, objects that remind you of times past or present, memories of events or occasions, family, neighbours, friends… Let’s make sure we have a broad variety of memories represented in ‘The Book of Killanne’. This will be our gift to future generations in our community, think about what you would like them to know, the importance of valuing & appreciating the area, the families, friends, heritage, the work, the past and the present, what makes Killanne the special community it is. All are welcome to join us Saturday, feel free to bring along your thoughts, memories, old photos, maps, newspaper cuttings, objects or anything you can think of…artists Liz Rackard & Mick O’Dea will help to develop the ideas, as pages in ‘The Book of Killanne’.

This beautiful photo of Chris Forrestal hangs proudly in the snug in Rackard's of Killanne, the photo was taken by Ken Hemmingway and is signed 19/6/92… now just over 34 years later, Chris’s portrait will be painted by artist Mick O’ Dea, next Saturday afternoon in Killanne Hall. We’d invite all to join us for this special event, where we’re sure Chris will remind us of many important happenings in Killanne over the years!
