I have a soft spot for brazen cash-in albums, and this 1963 LP is one of the most loveable & outrageous. Just as the previously released Freddie King Goes Surfin’ contains zero Surf 🏄‍♀️ music, this album will provide 0% of your daily Bossa Nova intake. What you do get is a bountiful feast of warmed-over funky Blues.
The two instrumentals here were assigned the titles ‘The Bossa Nova Watusi Twist’ (which wins the coveted award for the most trends referenced in a single title) and ‘The Bossa Nova Blues’.
