A Missing Table Showed Me What Community Looks Like. At The Rise Tour Experience conference in Washington, D.C., founded by Dr. Shavonna Herron-Johnson, a glass table for the décor was missing.

One Rise Ambassador simply said, “I live 15 minutes away. I can go home and get one.”

She saw what was missing—and offered to help.

Later, Philomena Moncoeur asked panelist Sharrarne Morton to leave the audience with one word.

Her word was “Sisterhood.”

From behind my camera, those two moments came together.

Sharrarne gave it a name.

The Ambassador showed me what it looked like.

And I thought—this isn’t only for women. It applies to all of us.

My BIG Takeaway: Community isn’t what we call ourselves. It’s what we do when someone needs help.

Who can count on you to step forward?

Because one story, told the right way, can change everything.

This... is a TelliStori.

At 96, he didn’t walk to that stage alone.

Sixty years of faith, family, hard work, and service walked with him.

At The Rise Tour Experience in Washington, D.C., founded by Dr. Shavonna Herron-Johnson, Mr. James E. Lindsey Sr. received the Rise Entrepreneurial Award.

His family plumbing business opened in 1966—and it is still serving people today.

Watching him, I didn’t just see a successful business owner.

I saw proof that when we use our gifts to help others, our work can outlive the moment.

My BIG Takeaway: A gift becomes a legacy when it keeps serving people.

What are you building today that could still help people 60 years from now?

Because one story, told the right way, can change everything.

This… is a TelliStori.

These photos show what the day looked like. But they cannot fully show what the day meant.

Looking through them, I see smiles, conversations, and people standing together at The Rise Tour Experience in New Orleans.

But what stayed with me was something deeper.

“Beyond the Storm” wasn’t just the theme. It represented people choosing what happens next.

Founder Dr. Shavonna Herron-Johnson created a space where people could honor what they had survived—without allowing it to define the rest of their story.

That is what I see when I look at these photos.

Not people pretending the storm never happened.

People deciding the storm would not have the final word.

My BIG Takeaway: A photograph may capture one moment, but it can also remind us how far we have come. What does your smile say about the storms you have survived?

Because one story, told the right way, can change everything.

The most powerful moment in New Orleans wasn’t polished.

It was honest.

During The Rise Tour Experience, Demond Coleman asked Philomena Moncoeur, “Can I be transparent?”

What he shared reminded me that someone can look successful—and still be fighting a storm nobody sees.

That is why I value the community founder Dr. Shavonna Herron-Johnson has built.

It isn’t a place for judgment or pity. It’s a safe place to tell the truth, strengthen relationships, rebuild, pivot, and keep going.

My BIG Takeaway: Going beyond the storm begins when we stop performing—and start being honest.

Have you ever looked strong while quietly facing a storm?

Because one story, told the right way, can change everything.

Jack Daniel’s threw me for a loop on this one. 😂

TJ and LJ of @blaqueramllc were visiting from Georgia, so I added a Georgia-inspired twist to dessert: fresh peaches and my Peach Whiskey Caramel Sauce made with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey.

I originally said “bourbon sauce” — 🤣 But it's Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey.

And the surprise? I didn’t know bread pudding was one of LJ’s favorites until we were already eating!

Tuesday’s True: I Tried Something New and that Peach Whiskey Caramel Sauce was worth making! I will make it again!!😁

RIse ABOVE Your Challenges!!🙏🏾

The RISE Tour was uplifting, inspirational, and a reminder to keep going no matter what you’re facing.

I also loved that Dr. Shavonna Herron-Johnson recognizes local entrepreneurs and businesses in each city for their perseverance and impact.

Don't miss the Rise Tour in your city! You just might leave with a message meant for you. Mine was, “I am the missing piece.”

Sometimes the most valuable thing in the room isn’t the speaker.

It’s the people sitting beside you.

This weekend in Chicago, I had the privilege of attending The Rise Tour Experience, created by Dr. Shavonna Herron-Johnson, at 24 Row.

Yes, there were powerful conversations about leadership, business, wealth, and legacy.

But what stayed with me wasn’t just what happened on the stage.

It was what happened between the sessions.

People introducing themselves.
Sharing ideas.
Encouraging one another.
Building relationships that may change the future of their businesses and their lives.

That’s what real community looks like.

Dr. Shavonna isn’t simply hosting events. She’s creating spaces where people can connect, grow, and remind each other that none of us is meant to build alone. The program itself reflected that mission, bringing together entrepreneurs, community leaders, keynote speakers, and fireside conversations focused on leadership, legacy, wealth building, and transformation.

My BIG Takeaway: Business grows through strategy. But life changes through relationships.

Never underestimate the power of being in the right room with the right people.

If you’re an entrepreneur who believes relationships are one of your greatest business assets, I’d love to invite you to join our community.
