Hunter x Hunter Volumes 5-7
.
.
.
Heavens Arena Arc🏟️

- After saving Killua the gang decide to go their separate ways with the promise to reunite at Yorknew city in 6 months on September 1st. Kurapika is going to use his new found knowledge to get connections into the world’s largest auction to get his revenge on the Phantom Troupe, a group of power thieves, who murdered his clan and plan on raiding the upcoming auction. Leorio will go home and lock in on medical school. Gon and Killua? Well they don’t necessarily have a plan, and Gon really wants his rematch with Hisoka to give him back the badge he let him have during the Hunters Exam. But they’re broke and weak, so Killua mentions a place where they can compensate for both, Heavens Arena🏟️

This is essentially a training arc and a great and short one at that. This arc introduces the power system of the series “Nen” and i just want to emphasize how the Hunters Exam didnt even mention the power system once… even after getting the most elite license they still dont even have the decency of teaching you the basics on surviving in this world, its harsh and i like that, absolutely no hand outs.

Nen is an absolute huge and diverse power system with a ton of categories so im not going to go in depth on it but i will say for an advance system like this Togashi definitely needed an arc to flesh this out properly. The rest of the arc is our duo having a very harsh and strict training session throughout the entire 6 months and learning their specific nen type. All this training leads to Gon eventual rematch with Hisoka on the 200th floor (Partners are Tagged🏷️) #hxh #heavensarena #hunterxhunter #hisoka #gon

Floppy Manga Monday 📚🥷

This week we’re going back to 1988 with The Legend of Kamui Issue 25 by Sanpei Shirato!

These old Viz/Eclipse floppies are such a cool piece of manga history, but this one also gave me the chance to dive into Shirato, Garo and the world of gekiga.

I’ve really grown to love exploring gekiga and artists like Tadao Tsuge, Yoshiharu Tsuge, Shigeru Mizuki and more. There’s so much manga history to uncover through these old books.

Have you ever read The Legend of Kamui?

Stay reading, stay being you. 👑

Floppy Manga Monday 📚

*Mai, the Psychic Girl* is such a cool piece of manga history.

28 floppy issues, Ryoichi Ikegami on the art, and somehow this series almost became a live-action Tim Burton movie?! Imagine that alternate timeline 👀

I also have two volumes of the Viz Perfect Collection, so definitely want to dive deeper into this series.

Would you have watched the Tim Burton adaptation?

Stay reading, stay being you, stay collecting.

Floppy Manga Monday 📚💥🔥

Pulled out my AKIRA Issue 2 from Epic Comics for this one!

Started off talking about Steve Oliff and Olyoptics, and how the coloring on these releases helped push comic coloring and computer-assisted color separation forward.

But what I really wanted to talk about is AKIRA’s impact beyond manga. You can see its influence everywhere, from Ye pulling inspiration from AKIRA throughout his career to anime continuing to inspire music, fashion, film, and visuals today.

That influence is still going strong too, with artists like The Weeknd recently tapping into Evangelion.

What manga or anime cultural moment stands out to you the most? 👇🏾

Stay reading, stay being you.

“WELCOME TO THE MADHOUSE, BATMAN!”🤡🦇

While a lot of people talk about Arkham City and Arkham Knight, and I might be a little biased because this was my first ps3 game 🙈 but Arkham Asylum is such an amazing game and a bit underrated.

The vibes in this game is unmatched. I love the little bits of psychological horror that is sprinkled in. And of course I love the fourth wall break halfway through the game 👀

The gameplay loop is quite fun. It actually takes design cues from metroidvania games which is pretty cool. Getting to unlock more of the map or getting to previous areas you weren’t able to access before.

I also love the interview tapes in the game! My personal favourite is one of the Riddler’s ones. It’s the “What crawls on four” interview. So unhinged.

Besides a meh final boss, this game is still so awesome and definitely worth playing 🔥

What is your favourite Arkham game? 🤔
