And just like that, my journey at the School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG) has come to an end.

11 months of learning, unlearning, asking questions, seeing things differently, and understanding what it truly means to be part of building a better society.

Not only did I graduate, my capstone group also won the Best Capstone Award and Grant for the impact we made through our project, “Skill to Stability.” @sppg_povertyandinequality This win means so much to us because we didn’t just want to complete a project for the sake of graduating. We wanted to do something that could actually make a difference in people’s lives.

One thing SPPG has taught me is that good governance is not just about the people in government. Yes, every nation needs good policies, strong institutions, and responsible leadership to function well. But we also have a part to play. Change doesn’t always have to start from the top. Sometimes, it starts with what we choose to do in our own communities.

I’m leaving SPPG with more knowledge, a different way of looking at things, and a stronger belief that we can all contribute to making our society better.

A big thank you to all the amazing faculty members at SPPG. @thesppg For 11 months, we had the privilege of learning from your wealth of knowledge and experiences. Thank you for challenging us to think beyond ourselves.

And to the convener, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, @obyezeks thank you for creating a platform that raises people who are not just interested in talking about change but are willing to do the work.

SPPG may have ended, but the responsibility to put everything we’ve learned into practice has only just begun. ❤️#skill2stabilty #sppg #graduation

Early yesterday morning, I received a rejection email from the @lmi_official Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI), an organisation whose vision I strongly believe in and one I had hoped would help shape, build, and equip me for my journey in public service and politics.

I understand that opportunities like this are highly competitive, and while the news was disappointing, I refused to let it define my journey or diminish my vision.

One rejection cannot invalidate a vision, and one closed door cannot stop a determined mind. I remain committed to learning, growing, serving my community, and preparing myself for the leadership responsibilities I aspire to take on.

This is not the end of the journey; it is another opportunity to learn, improve, and come back stronger. My commitment to leadership, public service, and making a meaningful impact remains unwavering.

I also want to sincerely appreciate the leaders, organisers, mentors, and entire team of the Legislative Mentorship Initiative for the effort, time, and commitment they invest in identifying, developing, and empowering young people who aspire to serve. Their work is valuable, and I am grateful for the opportunity to apply and engage with an organisation committed to building the next generation of leaders.

As the Bible reminds us in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” This verse encourages me to remain steadfast, hopeful, and committed to the journey ahead.

The vision is bigger than one opportunity, and the journey continues. I may have been rejected, but I have not given up.

My application for the Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) Fellowship, 5th Cohort, was unsuccessful, but this rejection will not stop my journey because every application is an opportunity to learn, grow, demonstrate my competence, and prepare for greater opportunities.

To every young person afraid or ashamed of rejection, keep applying, keep improving, and keep showing the world what you can offer, because one rejection does not define your potential, your destiny requires courage, persistence, and the willingness to keep trying until you reach the places you aspire to be.

Empowering Africa’s Next Generation of Digital Leaders and Innovators

On Thursday, 8 October 2026, the Deputy Chief of Staff of CoSPAL, Ms Solape Sonuga represented the Secretary-General, Amb. ’Dapo Oyewole, at the second edition of the Vision 2035 AI-athon Project: Digital Leadership Workshop and Speech Contest (DILS), held at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja.

Organised by the Young Communicators Initiative (TYCI), the forum brought together emerging leaders to explore the responsible use of artificial intelligence, technology and public communication in advancing governance and development across Africa.

As technology continues to reshape societies and institutions, equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to engage responsibly with these tools is essential to building a more innovative, inclusive and digitally empowered Africa.

Investing in young people’s digital capacity today is an investment in Africa’s democratic and developmental future.

From doubting myself to becoming one of the 50 fellows selected from over 7,000 applications. What a journey!

With a heart full of gratitude, I am delighted to announce that I have been selected for the LMI 5th Cohort, representing my dear state, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Honestly, I almost doubted myself before submitting my application. I wondered if I stood a chance among thousands of applicants. But then I asked myself, “What if this is the turning point I have been waiting for? And even if it doesn’t work out, what if the experience inspires my next step?”

So, I took the leap, submitted my application, and today, I made it on my first attempt🥹❤️

This is more than a personal achievement; it reminds me that we must give ourselves a chance before deciding what we are capable of.

As an educator and youth development advocate, I believe in the power of young people to create change. Through education, community learning, mentorship, and creative expression, I have witnessed how the right guidance and opportunities can transform lives.

This fellowship is an opportunity to learn from experienced leaders, connect with brilliant young minds, strengthen my leadership and policy advocacy skills, and gain practical knowledge to create sustainable impact.

More importantly, I look forward to bringing these lessons back to my community and turning what I learn into meaningful action.

Here is to growth, service, leadership, and greater impact!

CHALLENGING EXCLUSION, EXPANDING PARTICIPATION

The final session of the @benuedemocracyfellowship Virtual Leadership Academy featured an engaging conversation with Dr. @dr_angokp, Coordinator of the @lmi_official (LMI).
Speaking on “Gender, Political Participation and Challenging Exclusionary Narratives,” Dr. Kutiyi challenged fellows to examine the barriers that continue to limit the participation of women and other underrepresented groups in leadership and governance spaces.

Drawing from her experiences across public health, leadership development, public service, and governance, she encouraged participants to move beyond simply recognising exclusion and begin actively confronting the narratives that sustain it.
The session explored how stereotypes, bias, and cultural assumptions shape political participation and representation, while equipping fellows with practical approaches for fostering more inclusive civic and political engagement within their communities.

A key message from the session was that meaningful democratic participation requires creating spaces where diverse voices are heard, respected, and empowered to contribute.

As future democracy champions, our fellows were reminded that representation is not merely about numbers, but about ensuring everyone has a fair opportunity to participate, lead, and influence decisions that affect their communities.

We are grateful to Dr. Kutiyi Ango Dada for closing our leadership academy with such an insightful and thought-provoking discussion.

This is bigger than a gathering. It is a conversation about the financial future of an entire generation.

It is about equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge, opportunities, and financial capabilities required to participate meaningfully in the economy.

It is about bringing together the people, institutions, and organisations that can help shape that future.

MEET OUR TRAINING FACILITATORS 🥰

Today marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for the inaugural cohort of the Benue Democracy Fellowship

We are delighted to unveil a distinguished faculty of democracy practitioners, governance experts, media professionals, development leaders, and peacebuilding specialists who will facilitate our three-day Virtual Leadership Academy from 9th to 11th October 2026.

For us, this training is not just another activity within the fellowship. It is the foundation upon which the entire fellowship journey is built.

Over the next three days, our fellows will engage directly with leaders like @jamesojo73, Senior Copyeditor at @legit.ng, @Segun Modupin, Deputy Executive Director at @youthhubafrica, @kengkengati, Senior Project Officer at @international_alert, @yagerbenterver, Director of Programme, @benue_sdgs, @ibrhmfaruk, Program Coordinator at @yiaga (African Division), @dr_angokp, Coordinator of @lmi_official whose work has shaped conversations around democracy, governance, youth political participation, peacebuilding, media accountability, leadership, and sustainable development in Nigeria and across Africa.

The opportunity to learn from these practitioners, ask difficult questions, share experiences, and build meaningful connections is one of the most valuable aspects of the fellowship experience.

In the coming hours and days, we will be introducing each facilitator, highlighting their contributions to democracy and development, and sharing why their expertise matters to the journey our fellows are about to embark upon.

This is a significant moment for our fellows.
