ZOOT CALLS FOR YOUR VOICE

Porto-based visual artist Gabriela Carvalho e Cunha created these four illustrations for ZOOT in response to what’s happening on the streets of Porto, where people are taking a stand against rising rents and a housing crisis that is leaving more and more people unable to afford a place to call home.

Four illustrations, one struggle: the right to a place of your own.
A tent instead of a home. A house that was never yours. Power crushing what is fragile. Police on the streets.

Set to Landlord’s Demise, the illustrations confront a world where homes become commodities, communities are pushed out, and the basic right to shelter is reduced to a privilege.

“I ended up using only two techniques: black ink and pen on paper for the police and tent illustrations, and charcoal on paper for the house illustrations. The text was made with red ink on paper.”

ZOOT BACKSTAGE AT MODALISBOA
DINO ALVES SS27

An intimate glimpse at POEM
@dino_alves_eu
@lisboafashionweek

The backstage rush, the faces, the madness. A first glimpse of POEM, Dino Alves’ SS27 collection, straight from backstage.
With POEM, Dino explores clothing as a language of its own, with the body as a territory of memories and emotions that take shape in the way we dress. In a world saturated with images and instant answers, POEM reclaims contemplation, moving between moments of restraint and bursts of expression. As Dino puts it, “Beauty lies as much in what we reveal as in what we are unable to say.”

ZOOT AT LONDON FASHION WEEK
Backstage at BORA AKSU SS27

With in-house backstage photographer @zuzu.valla
Words by Fashion Editor @rebekahroy_

„You can look at a Bora Aksu dress and just see a beautiful dress. The lace, the ruffles, the puff sleeves, from the creams and pinks, the oxblood. The way it floats when she walks. It’s beautiful and that’s enough. But if you look a second longer, you discover the story of Mary Beale, one of the earliest women in England to establish herself as a professional artist, at a time when a woman’s entire existence was supposed to revolve around her husband and her home. She ended up supporting her family with her art. Her husband ran her studio. Read that again. In the 1600s.
Aksu took that history and built a collection around it, tailoring and structure and masculine shirting worked into soft, romantic pieces, as a nod to a woman who quietly rewrote the rules around her.
Then he layered in a second story. Antep embroidery, a craft from Gaziantep that takes artisans up to six months per piece to hand complete. Every stitch is somebody’s actual time, patience, and skill.
So when you wear a dress like this, and learn what’s underneath, it stops being only a beautiful object. It becomes a reminder that women have been building power for centuries, one through her work, one through her hands, and this collection is honouring both of them. The dress is beautiful and powerful.
That’s what I love about fashion at this level. For Bora Aksu, it’s never just fabric. The dress is always telling a story, if you take the time to look.“

RIO MEETS PARIS: A BRIDGE BETWEEN CONTINENTS — AND A BRIDGE AS A BACKDROP

Two cities, one runway. @runway.vision lands beneath the Pont Alexandre III, bringing Brazilian and international talent to the banks of the Seine.
Among those crossing over from Brazil: Caio Mota. Born in Goiás, @ocaiomota has spent more than two decades turning found materials into sculptural adornments, from seeds and natural elements to steel, scrap metal and recycled silver. His maximalist pieces blur the line between jewellery, fashion and sculpture.
For Runway Vision, Mota brought Fantasmagórica from Rio to Paris, a collection rooted in memory, excess and the women he calls his goddesses.

“Caio Mota transforms dressing into an artistic language. His sculptural accessories and final imagery transcend fashion to create an original and provocative work. Here, dressing becomes more than consumption — it becomes expression and art.”

ANA SKY: IN THE AIR
Interview with Ana Sky

After putting music aside for a career in science, American singer and songwriter @anasky found herself pulled back towards the dream she had never quite let go of. We met her earlier this year in London, during her concert at Islington Assembly Hall, to talk about following intuition, the analytical mind, and finding new ways to understand ourselves and the world through music.

Now back in the UK and Europe as a special guest on Westlife’s 25th Anniversary World Tour @westlife, starting 29 September, Ana Sky is taking that dream to an even bigger stage.

“I’m so humbled and excited to have the opportunity to tour with Westlife this fall! Doing another tour in the UK is such a gift in and of itself, but to get to work with such an established group of artists is an absolute dream. This will be my biggest tour to date, and I feel so grateful to get to share my music at this level.”
— ANA SKY
