Hayshed is thrilled to present, “I Have My Way of Praying,” an exhibition curated by Esther L Cohen alongside the release of poem chapbooks by Fiona Baler.

The title for this exhibition is borrowed from the Mary Oliver poem, “How I Go to the Woods,” in which the poet revisits an intimate experience of convening with nature in solitude. She describes her walk through the forest as an act of prayer.

This exhibition is interested in the artists’ “prayer.” Rituals, actions, and places become channels between artists and their creative source.

“I Have My Way of Praying” considers prayer beyond its association with organized religion. Prayer is explored as a bridge between worlds; the concrete and the imaginary, the profane and the divine, the conventional and the creative.

Each work in the show is an act of prayer itself.

Opening Sunday October 18th, 3 — 6pm at Hayshed,

Open by Appointment only October 17 — October 19th, 2026

For as long as most people have known me, I’ve been the hair and makeup artist. It’s what I’ve dedicated my life to for many years, and I still love creating beauty for others.

But somewhere along the way, I realized I missed creating just for me.

Lately, I’ve been saying yes to experiences that remind me what it feels like to be a student again. To play. To experiment. To make art without wondering if it’s good enough or if anyone else will like it.

This cyanotype workshop with @localbluekeeper was one of those moments.

Standing in front of the camera to create self-portraits, watching sunlight slowly reveal each print, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time. I wasn’t creating a service or a finished product—I was simply creating because my soul needed it.

Maybe that’s what this season of my life is about. Finding pieces of myself I forgot were there. Exploring every side of my creativity. Allowing myself to evolve without feeling like I have to stay in one lane.

So if you start seeing more than just hair and makeup here, it’s because I’m learning that being an artist isn’t about one medium. It’s about following whatever inspires you and having the courage to share it.

Here’s to rediscovering the artist within me. 💙

What a great Mother's Day! First, a brilliant performance of Falstaff at LA Opera, with Craig Colclough as Falstaff and Maestro James Conlon conducting, and then dinner at Red Bird in DTLA with Hannah, Ardent, Blue, and Jude. We missed Izzy, but Julia played tele-scrabble with her on the way up to LA.
