If you're obsessed with perimenopausal and menopausal gut health as much as we are, you are not going to want to miss this conversation at the @livelong_media Live long Summit in New York.

WHY??

Gut Health is The Missing Piece in Women's Longevity
The gut does far more than digest; it shapes hormones, immunity, and even mood. This session unpacks the gut-brain-hormone connection and what women can actually do to support it through midlife and beyond.

Come meet:

Dr. Kumkum Patel — Double board-certified gastroenterologist specializing in the gut-brain-pelvic floor connection, and a nationally featured women's gut health expert

Dr. Kudzai Dombo — Board-Certified OBGYN & Director of Advocacy at Alloy Health

Anita Mirchandani — Dietitian & Director of Nutrition Services, Carolyn Rowan Center for Women’s Health & Wellness

Moderated by Rachel Lehmann-Haupt, Livelong Media

Did you know? Most ovarian cancer doesn’t start in the ovaries. For decades, we called it “ovarian” because we assumed it began there. Now we know: more than 70% of the most aggressive subtype starts in the fringes of the fallopian tubes and spreads.

The prevention has existed since 2013. Removing the tubes (a five to ten minute procedure called opportunistic salpingectomy) reduces risk of the most aggressive subtype by up to 80%. It preserves your ovaries, your hormones, your cycle, your menopause timing. It only removes what is essentially a transit system you no longer need once you’re done having children.

And if you’re not done? IVF still works. It bypasses the tubes entirely.

So why isn’t everyone doing it?

Gina Kolata’s piece in the New York Times landed on my kitchen table last week and left me with a list of questions she didn’t have room to answer:

How much surveillance makes sense, with family history, without, with a personal history of cancer?
What are the symptoms, and is it too late by the time anyone notices?
Wasn’t that birth control pill supposed to cut my risk?
What does the procedure involve?
What if you don’t have an abdominal surgery planned?

So I called three of my doctors, read the studies, and put together what I learned.

Comment TUBES, and I’ll send you the full article.

In good health,
Susan

Puis, en quittant mon premier mariage, j'ai commencé à me retrouver.

Longevity & Women’s health panel 🎤💪🏽

Rubriken på samtalet var “How to live well, not just long”.
