This month’s Longsight Table is Tatreez at the Sofra 🧵

For centuries, tatreez has been a way for Palestinians to stitch their stories, villages and identity into cloth. Come spend an evening with us learning about it and stitching your own napkin to take home. After that, we’ll share a Palestinian dinner together, with a mandatory makloube flip! (If you know you know)

Sofra means “spread” in Arabic, so come hungry. See you soon!

p.s. spaces are limited, and a small contribution at booking helps us avoid empty seats and food waste on the night. If your plans change, please release your ticket so someone else can take your place. Link in bio.

Part of The Longsight Table, twelve dinners, twelve themes, one community. 7/12

Supported by Westhill Endowment Fund

I’m delighted to share that my work will be part of The Whitaker Open at @whitakermuseum, alongside an inspiring group of talented artists!

It’s wonderful to be part of a space that brings together different artistic voices, perspectives, and creative practices.

This marks another meaningful chapter in my artistic journey, shaped by research, reflection, and the stories I hope to tell through my work.

The exhibition opens Saturday, 17th October, from 2–4 PM, and will run until 13th December.

Looking forward to sharing this experience with you all. Hope to see you there! ✨

#REPOST @longsightartspace

Can you help us create long lasting furniture for the art space on 29th and 30th October?

Gain experience working with your hands, and give back to the community with artist and architect Shahed Saleem as we repurpose the sculpture he made for Our Longsight Festival into indoor furniture for Longsight Art Space. We will be turning the timber into seating and storage for usage forevermore 🪑

We are looking for helpers 12pm - 4pm on Thursday 29th and 10am - 4pm on Friday 30th October.

If you think you can help, please dm us or email longsight.cas@gmail.com with your availability and any relevant information about your skills or experience.

'Draped around the walls of the gallery, the banners invite close inspection and the slow unravelling of meaning, enabling nuanced messages to be shared and received. The collaborative and participatory processes that created them demonstrate what can be achieved when people put their creative minds together to untangle and challenge dominant narratives.'

Dawn Woolley explores ‘Faces and Threads’, a collaborative project by artist and social science researcher Dr Lone Sorensen and artist Parham Ghalamdar, working with curator Chris Bailkoski/PROFORMA and community partners in Beeston/Hunslet and Longsight. The most recent iteration of the project was on view at BasementArtsProject from September 1 to October 4, 2026. Link in bio to read the full piece ✨

Another cosy MSJI Film Club evening last week 🌊🎞️

We watched With Hasan in Gaza together, travelling through Gaza as it was in 2001, and reflecting afterwards on everything that Gaza has resisted since, and all the ways ordinary life continues in spite of occupation.

Thank you to everyone who came and watched with us, and raised funds for @bridge.of.solidarity 🤍 & a big thank you to @longsightartspace for the beautiful space, as always!

** Next screening will be 12 November** We’re very excited about this one… 👀🍿

delighted to share we've received ACE funding to present a programme of sound art at @longsightartspace this autumn-winter 2026-7!

coming up are two exhibitions, a premiere of a new artist film, live experimental performances and workshops, featuring a constellation of artists based across the north west.

presenting:

✶ The soil hums ultra sound
✶ The body is an aerial
✶ Years from now, I'll be here

with @aliyah.a.hussain @paul_stan_nataraj @jessica_elmal @binkbulth @lapalacemusic @danielleswindells @brit_sea @sophiaharari @leohermitt and more to be announced

with huge thanks to @sa__rizwan at Longsight Art Space, @soundarthannah, @kymaraakinpelumi, @kop_zd4n and Lara at @workingwith___ for their incredible support and consultation behind the scenes

the impulse for quiet time arose from a sustained period of ill health and fatigue, of stillness and heightened sensitivity, when listening became deeper and a space for renewed connection and presence.

excited to share these stories and signals at long last

with love,
brit x

We recently watched The Glassworker, Pakistan's first hand-drawn animated feature film! The screening was part of @msji.uk film club at @longsightartspace✨They did such a great job creating a warm and cosy atmosphere for the film. It felt like the perfect setting to experience something as visually stunning as The Glassworker.

Read our review to find out what we thought of the film --->

If you've watched the film, what did you think? We'd love to know! 🥭

We went into The Glassworker not really knowing what to expect after seeing lots of excitement around it online and aesthetically, we were seriously impressed! You can really see the Ghibli influence in the animation, but the film still has a style of its own. The glasswork in particular was beautifully illustrated and some of the action sequences (especially the war scene towards the end) really stood out to us for the detail! We also loved the character design; every character looks so unique and immediately recognisable without ever taking you out of the world of the film.

Another highlight and Ghibli-esque feature was the soundtrack, which added so much to the atmosphere and immersion, and we especially loved the gorgeous violin pieces throughout the film. It felt like a lovely connection to Alliz’s character and her identity as a violinist.

Where we both felt a little more conflicted was the story and pacing. At times, we weren’t quite sure what direction the film was trying to take. Was it a love story? A fantasy? A war film? The shifts between these felt quite sudden at times, and there were moments where the tone left us a little confused, almost like we were missing something. We also weren’t completely sure what the film was trying to say about war, like whether it was ultimately pro-war or anti-war, which we felt was an important oversight. The message became clearer by the ending, particularly the idea that art can prevail no matter what, but we did wish this had been made a little more explicit throughout.

That said, we think it’s important to appreciate just how much of an achievement The Glassworker is. As Pakistan’s first hand-drawn animated feature, and a film that took ten years to make
