Meet artist Amy Lipschultz who is mastering the art of Nerikomi. Her ceramics are formed with slabs created by almost collaging extrusions of clay. These clay slabs are formed into objects and carved to reveal hidden patterns.

Amy (@longyearpottery) is a ceramic artist based in Utah, exploring pattern-driven ceramics through nerikomi, stratacut, and modern clay experimentation. Her pottery blends traditional handbuilding with graphic design energy, turning clay itself into the art through process, pattern, and material play.

Amy showcases a satisfying ceramic mug making process by building a family of wonky flower mugs from a colored clay cane she reduced into different sizes. She pinches the clay pieces together, cleans the surface so the flower pattern reads clearly inside and out, then forms each mug with that soft handmade character still intact.

💬 Which part was most satisfying to watch—the slice, the cleanup, or the final mugs?
