We had a BLAST at The Southern Documentary Convening last weekend! We are especially proud of longtime HBF collaborator and Trans Trucker Project editor, Sowj “Trans Code” Kudva, who took the stage for Edit Verzus, a first-of-its-kind battle to the editors live to kick off the conference.

Thank you @southerndocfund and @lookdifferent.live for the great event and celebrating the vital work of documentary editors!

When people who love truth and stories collide something magical happens. That’s more important than ever in the South right now. Thanks for making it happen once again @southerndocfund @spellerstreetchris

✂️ Who said editing wasn’t a team sport?! Y’all, @southerndocfund & @lookdifferent.live through the wildest film networking party I’ve ever been at last night at @durhamfruit! It was SO. MUCH. FUN.
✨
👥 Building community and being out in film spaces is such an important part of the process of filmmaking, and to build community around such an innovative yet really well thought out inaugural event had electric energy. ⚡️
✨
💻 Both edits were so completely unique with a different flavor, style, and story, a reminder of the beauty of the often hidden art of the edit!
✨
I think we need to have one of these in LA, and Ima need to order a V4.final.actualfinal.forreal! 🤣

Join us on March 12th at 7:30PM at @thisismettlesome in Durham, NC for LOOK DIFFERENT Presents : REMIXES (@lookdifferent.live).

Chris Everett (@spellerstreetchris) of @southerndocfund will talk about how he started doing martial arts hip-hop events throughout NC to create engagement around his documentary @gmdocumentary, how he got connected with the legendary @shaolinjazz, creating immersive event experiences, and will show a few clips from @shaolinjazz’s live movie scoring experience CAN I KICK IT?.

He’ll also have some cool merch items such as ENTER THE DRAGON tees (designed by @fatal_stasis, printed by @starprintingnc) and Kung Fu Wu-Tang mashup patches (by @kfusupplyco).

After Chris’s presentation, LOOK DIFFERENT’s Saleem Reshamwala (@kidethnic) will demo some live VISUAL REMIX gear, and folks can jump in and get hands on with video clips and drum machines.
