We have had 30 Indigenous and Lit Book Club meetings! I am so grateful to have this book club and this awesome community of readers to discuss amazing Indigenous books with! The Indigenous and Lit picks have been some of the most incredible, life changing reads of my life.

The book of the month subscription box is $20 per month, and is an incredible way to support Black Walnut Books while decolonizing your reading. Every month you get the current Indigenous and Lit pick and something from an Indigenous artist.

Blood Sisters is set over one week in 2008 that was a real turning point for Syd’s hometown of Picher & I did my best to put as much truth in the fiction for readers 💜

Join us for two Lit events happening this month at Tulsa Artist Fellowship!

Hosted by Awardee Chelsea T. Hicks, the Osage Reconnection Zone Reading & Open Mic will happen on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 7-9 pm at Whitty Books (2306 E Admiral Blvd). Discover the transformative journey of Osage reconnection! Be part of a community collaborative zine reading, promoting connection and providing information to those feeling disconnected.

On Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 7-8 pm awardee Jennifer Croft will host, Romanian Literature in Translation, at Flagship (112 N Boston Ave). The discussion will feature renowned Romanian translator Sean Cotter about his adventures in Romanian fiction. Learn about his translation of Mircea Cărtărescu's novel SOLENOID, hailed by The New Yorker, Publishers Weekly, and The Financial Times.

Our inaugural Open House 2023 embodied what Tulsa Artist Fellowship values most - community care, collaboration, and commitment to nurturing Tulsa. The weekend featured a series of events, including exhibitions, site-specific installations, performances, readings, panel discussions, film screenings, open studios, art and literary publications, community meals, celebrations, and more.

Heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated audience members who made this weekend unforgettable. Your curiosity and engaged presence continuously propel the Tulsa Artist Fellowship forward. Participants are invited to take a brief survey (link in bio) about their experience and share ideas for next year.

Special thanks to the visionary staff members, awardees, artists and arts workers, artistic contributors, cultural partners, media platforms, presenters, culinary experts, and champions who supported this ambitious project.

More views from a kickass Tulsa weekend. Saw great art, heard amazing prose and poetry, two-stepped (badly and with joy), got my Merc fix, learned to make zines, ate soup out of a little pumpkin in a garden (not pictured), and napped in the car in perfect sunny weather. Til next month, darlings.
