shortlisted for @dezeenawards_

Room is a collective rug collection presented by @elespartano.ar during the 2026 edition of Milan
Design Week at Galleria @rossana_orlandi. Curated by @lidewijedelkoort the collection brings together 11 limited-edition rugs developed with five female designers: @carolebaijings @kikiandjoost @studio.inamatt @lopezlab.design and Edelkoort
herself. Manufactured in Buenos Aires, Argentina, using 100 per cent locally sourced wool and hand-tufting techniques, the collection was developed in collaboration with El Espartano’s Design Lab. Room explores the idea of the room as a place of intimacy, shelter and emotional connection.

Nuestra colección ROOM, curada por Lidewij Edelkoort (@lidewijedelkoort) y diseñada junto a Carole Baijings (@carolebaijings ), Kiki Van Eijk (@kikiandjoost ), Ina Meijer (@studio.inamatt ) y Mariola López Mariño (@lopezlab.design ) para El Espartano, fue seleccionada para la shortlist de los Dezeen Awards 2026 (@dezeenawards_ ) en la categoría Textile Design.

Entre más de 4.300 proyectos provenientes de 91 países, ROOM es uno de los 128 seleccionados en esta edición.

Los ganadores serán anunciados el próximo 16 de noviembre en la Royal Opera House, en Londres.

By exploring the limitless possibilities of artistic expression, Inner Child: Playing with Design is a groundbreaking design book that reminds us of the importance of remaining a kidult, bringing together more than 100 established and emerging creatives while offering an uplifting dose of hope for the future.

The inner child is both a mental and metaphorical notion representing the subconscious, childlike aspects of an adult’s personality, emotions and memories. Reconnecting with our inner child is also a contemporary coping mechanism to survive today’s climate of conflict and aggression, favouring a kinder, more empathetic way of life.

Following 8 main themes, this book profiles prominent contemporary designers and artists that celebrate joyful optimism, naïve simplicity and pure imagination. Their work incorporates simple materials such as wood, cardboard, papier mâché, ceramics and cuddly textiles.

The book opens with an essay by Edelkoort on the underexplored archaeological histories of toys and a chapter honouring design pioneers from across the inner child movement, spanning from Gerrit Rietveld to Maarten Baas. Additional essays by the philosopher Ype de Boer, academic Susan Magsamen and designer Ivy Ross take a deeper look at the anthropological, psychological and neuroaesthetic impacts of play and making.

Beautifully-designed by Mariola López Mariño at @lopezlab.design in Amsterdam, at 2 inches thick, the publication’s broad format, large typeface and hand-drawn titles embody the sturdy spirit of children’s books.
Inner Child: Playing with Design is an engaging storybook that unfolds through multiple voices and creative perspectives. It announces a new period in design that is analogue-centred and often crafted by hand — a much-needed antidote to the digital technologies currently challenging human senses and agency.

Ciao Milano!

Este año presentamos ROOM, una colección de alfombras curada por Lidewij Edelkoort junto a un grupo de diseñadoras holandesas —Carole Baijings (@carolebaijings), Kiki van Eijk (@kikiandjoost) Ina Meijer (@studio.inamatt ) y Mariola López Mariño (@lopezlab.design) —, con una pieza de la propia Edelkoort.

La propuesta aborda el interior como un espacio de refugio e intimidad, a través de piezas desarrolladas en 100% lana mediante técnica de hand-tufting, en colaboración con nuestro Laboratorio de Diseño en Buenos Aires.

Fue un placer encontrarnos en Milán con colegas y profesionales argentinos que se acercaron a visitarnos, y compartir el proyecto con la comunidad de diseño internacional.

In times of uncertainty, the need for an interior space, one of calm and protection, becomes essential. Even the smallest space can offer a sense of peace.

The collection offers a perspective on this intimate environment, built from everyday objects and silent rituals that shape a personal landscape.

Conceived as a collective effort, ROOM was led by five Dutch designers who brought diverse viewpoints on intimacy, domesticity, and the female experience of space:

— Lidewij Edelkoort (@lidewijedelkoort), a global reference in trends, with work spanning fashion, design, lifestyle and communication.

— Carole Baijings (@carolebaijings), a designer and colorist exploring the relationship between form and color.

— Kiki van Eijk (@kikiandjoost), known for her poetic sensibility and interdisciplinary approach, with a playful and intuitive use of color.

— Ina Meijer (@studio.inamatt ), co-founder of Studio INAMATT, working at the intersection of artistic research, spatial design and architecture.

“This project is about intimacy and what makes you feel home.”

Mariola López Mariño (@lopezlab.design) , is one of the five designers behind the eleven new pieces in the collection “ROOM”. She was responsible for Cat to Cuddle, Cupboard to Plunder and Room, bringing her characteristic conceptual clarity into each design.
