Harvest has begun.

Small-batch winemaking is quite different to working in a big winery. There’s less machinery, less automation and a lot more hands-on work.

Fruit gets moved by hand. The press gets emptied by hand. Things get lifted, adjusted, shovelled and generally made to work.

In this case, that includes raising the destemmer to get the setup right.

Of course I’d love to have the newest, smartest equipment for every job, but the reality of English winemaking is that margins are tight. Farming is expensive, wineries are expensive and people are expensive. So you work with what you have, solve the problems in front of you and concentrate on the things that really matter.

And that’s where I think a lot of the enjoyment comes from.

You’re close to the fruit. You see the juice coming out of the press. You taste it. You make the decisions. Often, in a small winery, the same person putting the fruit into the press is also the person ultimately responsible for the wine.

There’s something very satisfying about that.

Harvest always brings a few hurdles with it. You know they’re coming, you just don’t necessarily know what they’ll be yet.

But the fruit is coming in, the press is running and we’re underway.

A little look behind the scenes before we do it all again on Sunday with the grape picking at Renishaw Hall Vineyard.

Kim looked gorgeous on her wedding day 🤩 beautiful hair @emmabebridal_

Kim wanted a soft glam makeup look
I applied a light brown matte eye shadow using the makeup by Mario shadow pallette, a fine black winged liner, Kim loves her black winged liner and wanted to still feel like herself with the liner she always does day to day. I applied individual lashes, medium foundation coverage with a glow to the cheek bone, I added extra pink blush to pop on camera. I used one of my favourite mac cosmetic lipsticks thanx it’s Mac. what a lovely morning it was with Kim her mum and her bridesmaids 🥰💕
