#LibertadParaRuth #JuicioPublicoParaRuth #PostalesParaPresosPoliticossV — English — Colectiva La Chiltota closes Ruth López’s birthday month by sharing messages of love and solidarity-from us and from comrades in Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. Thank you to @freethemallva for inviting us to join in writing letters to political prisoners in El Salvador, such as Ruth López, alongside activities writing to people held in ICE detention centers. Thanks also to our community for joining us in this and other spaces to write messages on postcards designed for political prisoners-created for us and @cispes_solidarity by local Salvadoran artist @lost____marbles. In El Salvador prison visits and all forms of communication-whether calls or written correspondence with family or lawyers— are prohibited. These postcards serve as a symbolic message to demand the immediate release of Ruth and all political prisoners in El Salvador with the faith that through collective struggle, this repression will soon end.

On September 11, a judge in El Salvador’s organized crime tribunal extended the allowed pre-trial imprisonment of one of El Salvador’s most courageous activists, Fidel Zavala and 21 members of the La Floresta community, until August 2027. Fidel was accompanying the community, as the spokesperson for UNIDEHC, as they organized to legally and politically challenge the mass eviction of over 200 campesinx families of the La Floresta community. Go to CISPES.org/freefidel to learn more Go to bit.ly/amnestyfloresta for the Amnesty International action The recent investigative period extension granted to El Salvador’s attorney general (the third and longest extension granted in this case) could prolong their total pretrial imprisonment to over two years - which, prior to the reforms to the criminal code during Bukele’s State of Exception was the maximum time permitted for pre-trial imprisonment. Just another example of “organized crime” processes being applied to human rights defenders and community leaders.

It was an absolutely beautiful community event. Thank you so much for including us! Please join @cispes @lachiltotacc tomorrow at the Embassy of El Salvador 1400 16th St NW Washington, DC at 4:30pm. They will be having a Vigil honoring San Romero’s Legacy and the victims of 4 years of El Salvador’s State of Exception.

You’ve probably heard me talk about this place before but now you can finally see it for yourself. @luluscafedc Lulu’s Cafe is a P@lestinian-owned, family-run gem tucked into downtown DC, and it genuinely feels like a neighborhood living room. Named after the owner’s dog (who you may actually meet there; they’re extremely dog-friendly), the cafe carries that same warmth into everything: the food, the events, the people. The menu leans into heritage; think curry fatayer, a pistachio latte that will change your life, and a lavender white chocolate latte that sounds made up but isn’t. There’s also a hidden back patio that somehow manages to be an oasis in every season. Murals are by @taqi_spateen Beyond the food and drinks, Lulu’s hosts art shows, live music, markets, and classes, and has real roots in the local community. If you’re in DC, check their socials before you go (I managed to get there right before closing so I wouldn’t feel weird for filming) there’s almost always something happening. Find them at 1922 I St NW. Just go, you will ask yourself why you waited so long to go. 🤍💗☕️🥐🥧🍪🐶🧿✨🖤🌹 #arabOwned #dogfriendlydc #DCCoffee #SmallBusiness #CommunityFirst

“you’ll always be with us.” thinking back to times of laughs, encouragement & conviction w/ @graylanhagler. his legacy will live on in those he fought for and built with. read some of his words at the end slides 🙌🏼. my limited time with him include memories of him opening up his congregation in less than 24hrs when @mohammedelkurd Palestinian poet’s event was canceled at American University, disrupting @councilofdc several times demanding a Ceasefire resolution w/ @dc4palestine , demonstrating in front of the MLK memorial addressing the 3 evils w/ @dcpoorpeoplescampaign @codepinkdc @claudiajonesschool , delivering a petition outside of Pepperdine to get Johnnie Moore of the Gaza “Humanitarian” Foundation fired, celebrating at the Peace Ball & at his @busboysandpoets tribute, and reading more of his stories of his labor and faith struggles in MA & Baltimore, and Palestine. 🕊️ even if you didn’t know Reverend Hagler, folks are encouraged to go to his celebration of life ..as he’s touched people across the world, there’s also a virtual option.
