(Gifted PR/swatchin) While Halloween is a single day on October 31st, Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, crowns 'spooky season' in style on November 1st and 2nd. Wreathed in marigolds, or Cempasúchil, these two days the borders between the land of the dead and the living embrace in a celebration of color and light and La Familia. Marigolds decorate every sugar skull and as the spirits of the beloved dead visit the shrines made by those who love them most. The scent of marigold hangs heavy in the air as the dead greet the living.

That said, "Cempasúchil" by Lost Lake Lacquer is an ode to marigolds, the scent and often symbol of the Day of the Dead. This color is an intense golden yellow jelly with a rich red highlight and a cooler chartreuse undertone that builds up in two to four coats. Here I'm wearing three coats to keep my VNL visible but vague.

This color is really so glowy and saturated and festive and bright, everything I crave in fall. It just screams joy and the sheer spirit of Dia de Los Muertos!

It’s a very pretty thermal that goes from green to pink. Unfortunately I was not able to get the warm state in good lighting. By the time I’d make it to a spot with better lighting it would start changing on me 😆

When Is A Machine Not a Machine? This is the philosophical question posed by Alien: Earth, a show about the exploitation of deadly alien life forms, dying kids and deluded adults just trying to do their job.

Inspired by the melange of organic and inorganic, When is a Machine not a Machine is a mix of neon yellow and green hex, black bar and matte glitters, and chameleon gold flake. Best worn as a topper or in 2-3 coats with a glitter top coat and peely base coat.

Hangry Orchid
Is it a plant? Is it an animal? Whatever it is, it’s coming for you! This thermal-solar polish is inspired by the terrifying new alien species introduced in Alien: Earth, D. Plumbicare aka “The Orchid”. She is best in two to three coats. Finish with a glitter top coat for a shiny and smooth finish.

Weyland-Yutani Corporate Gray
The true monster of ALIEN is the faceless, cold megacorporation that will gleefully sacrifice all human lives for a chance at capturing a dangerous new life form.

Weyland-Yutani Gray is a neutral gray crelly with a pink shimmer. Best in 2-3 coats.

In Space, No One Can Hear You…AWGRRKAKAK
This is a beautiful green polish, very reminiscent of a certain reflecting pool, and inspired by the iconic green and black poster from ALIEN.

Fun fact: green is entirely absent in the movie. The designers thought the color would communicate space horror to potential audiences in 1979...and it worked.

Just Listen to the Scientists
This movie would have been over in 9 minutes if they had just listened to Ripley. Some things just don’t change, do they?

Just Listen is an absolute sensory nightmare of white hex, black bar and matte glitters, and silver linear holo. Best worn as a topper or in 2-3 coats with a glitter top coat.

Normally I’d be like, large white hex glitter? Barf. Matte black bar glitter? HARD PASS on the pubes in my polish, kwim. Mix them together and add holo?

I think every Black parent does. We do our best to prepare our children and ourselves. But nothing can prepare a parent for the death of a child.
