📚 Every child deserves to see themselves in a story!

As an SEMH teacher, I’m always on the lookout for books that offer meaningful neurodivergent representation and help children feel seen, understood and accepted.

Books can open up conversations, build understanding and remind children that they’re not alone in the way they think, feel or experience the world.

From autistic characters and ADHD representation to dyslexia, emotional regulation and big feelings, these stories offer so much more than just a good read.

They show children that their differences are nothing to hide.

I love finding books that don’t just focus on challenges, but celebrate strengths, individuality and the things that make each child who they are.

We are very excited to be announcing a creative event in our shop for October Half Term!

This event is perfect for children around ages 8+ and will involve creating a forest diary alongside an author.

Inspired by the book Lumi & the Wolf, this hands-on workshop encourages children to slow down and engage their senses, finding creative inspiration in the world around them, with guidance from author and illustrator Lottie Saahko.

What to expect:

- Crafting using a variety of materials
- Colouring, writing and reflective/creative play
- Meeting author Lottie, author of "Lumi & the Wolf"

A very exciting event is coming to Waterstones Sheffield!

On the 31st of October we will be hosting a 45-minute workshop with the author of 'Lumi and the Wolf', Lottie Saahko. The children will make their own forest diaries, just like the lead protagonist of the book, and will get to keep their notebooks to continue their diaries at home!

❄️ Introducing Storytale Schools Author... Lottie Saahko! ❄️

Lottie is originally from Finland, was raised in various countries, and now lives in the UK. She is an award-winning author and speaker, TV presenter, and content creator, with twelve books published in Finnish under the name Lotta-Sofia Saahko.

Lottie enjoys writing on themes of neurodivergence, third culture kids, the meaning of home and identity, and nature. You can find Lottie and her 30k+ followers on Instagram at @lottiesaahko.

Lottie is a monthly supporter of WWF Finland and Ecologi, and a member of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation. Lumi and the Wolf is her English debut.

I just have to share with you all this book by the magical Lottie Saahko! 💫

I was utterly transported to Finnish Lapland, where Lumi is staying with her aunt and uncle. When Lumi learns that a wild white wolf is being hunted, she knows she must do whatever it takes to save him.

Lottie's storytelling is immediate and impactful. The short chapters are perfect for those of us with limited attention spans 👀, and I devoured the whole thing in just a few sittings. I was so lost in the story that I nearly missed my stop on the tube!

I could almost hear my feet crunching in the snow and feel my hair turning to ice as I joined Lumi and her Wolf on their trek across the snowy Finnish fells. Lumi's neurodivergence is portrayed authentically and sensitively, offering a real insight into how she experiences the world.

I highly recommend reading Lumi and the Wolf and eagerly await Lottie's future stories! 🤍

(P.s the background in this picture is a mural on the wall at my parents house, painted by my super talented Mum! Isn't it amazing?! 😍🌲☃️)

The children’s author party for Jekyll vs Hyde: The Potion of Doom was horrendously good fun. As you scroll, you might spy how Henrik’s potion brought out the HYDES.

Feeling grateful, feeling happy, feeling lucky . . . but mainly feeling in dire need of another lie down.

I also ran out of tags halfway through the photos, and am feeling v sorry for self.
