I’d been wanting to write this song for a long time - over a decade, in fact - but how do you find the words to capture someone’s life and the impact they had on yours? I really wanted to honour my grandma in a way that led with joy instead of grief.

So it took some time. But now it’s here, and now it’s yours. Gardenias, the final single ahead of my debut album, is officially out in the world. 🤍🕊️

I hope this little song finds the people who need to hear it. Perhaps those who have lost someone they held close and are navigating their way forward.

Selfishly, I hope this would make her proud. Moe mai rā i roto i te aroa o te Atua.

Some moments are hard to put into words.♥️

🎵Singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” again reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place. Being back on this stage felt like coming home.

Over the past few years, God has been teaching me what it really means to trust His timing. There have been seasons of waiting, wondering, growing, and learning to surrender the things I thought had to happen on my timeline. Looking back now, I can see that none of it was wasted.

I’ve also had to learn to believe in myself again, to let go of striving, stop measuring myself by impossible worldly standards, and simply steward the gifts God has given me. The quiet hours of practicing, staying disciplined, showing up even when no one sees it…those moments build something far deeper than just a performance. They build confidence, gratitude, and trust.

When opportunities like this come along, they feel different because they’re no longer about proving anything. They’re about appreciating the gift, honoring the Giver, and being fully present in the moment.

Thank you, @itsgarthgarcia_ for inviting me to be part of such a beautiful evening and for trusting me with one of my favorite songs.

God’s timing has never looked like mine, but I’m learning that it’s always better. And for that, I’m incredibly grateful. 🤍

July 20, 1999 marks 27 years since the Chinese Communist Party launched its brutal genocide against Falun Gong. Millions of peaceful practitioners have been detained, imprisoned, tortured, and countless families torn apart. While much of the world has looked away, the persecution continues to this day.

One of those lives was Yu Zhou, a gifted Chinese folk musician who was tortured to death in police custody in 2008 after being arrested for practicing Falun Gong, a peaceful spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. After 11 days of torture, he died. His wife, the artist and poet Xu Na, remains imprisoned in China.

The Ballad of Brave Yu Zhou was written by songwriter David English over the course of eight years. When I first heard his demo, I had an unexpectedly emotional reaction, even though I knew almost nothing about Yu Zhou’s story. As I began learning who he was, I realized this wasn’t just a song about the past - it was about a story that is still unfolding.

Yu Zhou’s voice was silenced, but his music, his courage, and the values he lived by continue to inspire artists around the world.

My hope is that this song not only honors Yu Zhou’s life, but also helps shine a light on Xu Na’s ongoing imprisonment and reminds us that art has the power to outlive oppression.

You can silence a voice - but not the song.

Today, I release The Ballad of Brave Yu Zhou in memory of a courageous artist whose voice continues to echo through music.

Click the link in my bio to listen to the full song. Every purchase helps me continue creating independent music that tells stories worth remembering. Thank you for your support. 🙏🏻

♥️There’s nothing quite like live music. 🎶

After some time away from the stage, performing at Catalina Jazz Club felt like coming home.

Sharing the stage with such incredible musicians reminded me why I fell in love with performing in the first place. The connection that happens through live music is something I’ll never take for granted.

I’m so grateful for this opportunity, for everyone who came out to support, and for the amazing musicians who made the night so special. It really does take a village! 🙏Thank you @itsgarthgarcia_ , for having me, it was truly a joy. Here’s to many more nights like this. 🤍✨
