He was everybody’s dog and nobody’s dog.

A fellow with many names.

BanBan. Blue. Chester. Banbanoush.

At first, I refused to know him.

Falling in love with BanBan felt a little like falling for your high school crush. I knew he was going to break my heart.

I didn’t know how. I didn’t know when. I just knew he would.

And boy, did this dog break my heart. Pretty spectacularly at that. I have never ugly cried for days in a row in my life.

The grief could sit so heavily in your chest and follow you into every quiet moment.

But I suppose beautiful things hurt this much because they leave something behind.

BanBan carved out a place for himself in my heart. It is warm and colorful and loud and alive. He is gone now, but that little place will always belong to him.

I am so incredibly thankful for everyone who showed up today. There is something deeply comforting about knowing that he was loved far beyond the small world Peter and I shared with him. That so many people knew his face, called him by one of his many names, gave him treats, took him on walks, stopped to pet him, or simply noticed him.

And to remember him here, on the beach he loved more than anything in the world, feels right. A fitting finale for a dog who spent so much of his life looking toward the sea.

So take all of our love with you, BanBan.

Take the walks, the treats, the belly rubs, the people who loved you, and every good thing this life managed to give you.

But leave the hard parts here.

Leave this sad life behind.

It’s okay, my boy.

We will be okay.

💖💖💖

Today we donated his home to @luwasanimalproject . It will be used to quarantine newly rescued dogs. It is no longer a symbol of sadness but of hope.

Thank you @pow.finns @breathholddiary @mika.freediver @thenethernomad for helping us move his cage. It was super heavy and tricky to load on the truck.

Thank you fo everyone who showed BanBan love and also donated for BanBan’s care. Remaining proceeds were donated to Luwas.

Because of the Asian Freediving Cup 2026, I saw our little corner of Panglao become the center of the freediving world for 9 incredible days.

It’s hard to describe the feeling of finally slowing down after months of preparation. There is relief, pride, gratitude, and honestly, a little emptiness too.

You spend so long working toward one event that when it’s over, it almost feels unreal. Especially this year as my responsibilities expanded with doing athletes interviews and being part of the organizing team.

But it also reminded me of why I keep coming back. I feel so privileged to witness people chase their dreams up close. People’s dreams are powerful. I watched athletes break national, continental, and even world records. Year after year, I work with truly incredible people who inspire me, and the team only keeps growing.

To the athletes, sponsors and everyone who made AFC 2026 possible, thank you. This competition belongs to all of you 💖

No matter what your role is in this competition, I hope you had an awesome time!
