Here’s a sweet little recap of my botanical mugs workshop and forage at @Lovebrook_cic farm!

It was such a beautiful day and such a lovely vibe. Thanks to all who came along with nice big smiles and got stuck in.
The mugs are in the kiln right now. Waiting for glaze. I can’t wait to see the results!

🍂 An autumnal plate and a little kitchen experimentation.

I’ve been looking for ways to get more protein and fibre into my meals, and have been reading Sophie’s Plant Kitchen and Dominique Ludwig for inspiration. Both have some lovely ideas, and between them they’ve encouraged me to experiment with ingredients I haven’t really used before. First up: silken tofu.

I had a beautiful squash from Lovebrook Community Farm in Kingston that had been sitting in my kitchen for a few weeks, waiting for its moment.

I cut it into wedges and roasted it with olive oil and herb salt from Seasoned Pioneers, alongside sliced red onion and a whole bulb of garlic from Knepp Wilding.

Meanwhile, I whizzed up a little carton of Clearspring silken tofu with a generous squeeze of lemon juice, some of the roasted garlic squeezed from its skin, and a good dessertspoon of tahini. Possibly rather a lot for one person, but I do love tahini.

I spread the tofu cream across the plate as a base, letting it lose its fridge chill first so it wasn’t too cold against the warm vegetables.

Then came the roasted squash and red onion, straight from the oven, with a scattering of black and white sesame seeds.

To finish, I whisked together a little olive oil, maple syrup and apple cider vinegar until it became a thick, glossy dressing, then drizzled it over everything. The sweet acidity worked beautifully with the earthy squash and creamy tahini.

The result was really delicious, and a lovely way to try something new while thinking more about protein and fibre.

My one learning was about texture. It needed something properly crunchy to contrast with all that softness. Some toasted sourdough would have been lovely, or perhaps toasted flaxseeds, nuts or a more generous scattering of seeds.

Definitely one to make again, with a little more crunch next time.

A huge turning point in my healing journey. Seeds were sown this day! 17th July 2025 1:11pm 🌱

@lovebrook_cic were the very first to offer me help for nothing just because they cared. I will never forget thier kindness and the vision they hold there. I see it too. You inspire me to continue on and create something from my pain into purpose and giving back something just because I care too.

So much around healing money blocks and having to put a price on your worth. We need to stop doing this. ✋ yeah money is energy but so is your time and attention. Grow from that rather then what you have in your wallet. The team at LoveBrook are really leading the way forward. ✨

I’ve hugely invested in myself since and I’m not saying this isn’t neccesary but we need these services too if not more than ever now. And for some its a real tough negotiation and delaying them getting help and support.

I admire all those that offer their work for free and that still charge too. I hope we can create a new dynamic on how we work and collaborate together.

Giving back to ourselves and those around us. 🌻

The Squash Harvest: linoprint inspired by a photo I have of @leasa.williams this time last year when we were bringing in squash of all shapes and sizes to store for the Autumn at @lovebrook_cic .

I've spent a lot of this Summer thinking/reading about food security; feeling a bit inert with climate anxiety and wanting to articulate it in some way, but also not wanting to add to the doom and noise on the subject.
Everyone's probably heard the government warnings that we should be stockpiling food in-case of emergencies: war or cyber attacks or extreme weather brought about by climate change, which is already happening. But this individualises a really structural problem, which is that the UK is not set up to withstand any threats to its food system. We are one of the least food-sufficient countries in Europe - around half our vegetables and 80% of fruit are imported from other countries (whose climates are also rapidly changing).
We need much more emphasis on community-based sustainable food solutions, that focus on biodiversity & climate adaptation to build resilience in the years to come. Luckily there are lots of fantastic people doing that work - but it is tough, under-valued and difficult to make a living from (see @bi4farmers campaign on why food growers deserve financial security like any other sector !).
Anyway, this is all to say hooray for local seasonal food and the people that do the work of producing it. It’s one of the things that gives me tangible hope in the face of wildfires and billionaires and AI data centres. Now if the UK gov could recognise its importance too, and invest in the sustainable food systems that we urgently need - instead of advising us to panic buy tins of baked beans - that would be even better.

Our Jen
https://www.goodhub.com/go/helpforourjen

My wild, beautiful, brave, badass, glorious, hilarious, talented friend has died.
Cancer is brutal and this one was merciless.

We had talked often together along the way about how on earth we go about accepting THIS kind of unacceptable. i’m at the beginning of this path. Acceptance is far in the distance and yet here we are already with this bright burning light of a woman - gone.

So - how do we begin to say goodbye? Tears (many and frequent) over photos, and voice notes and memories. Long hugs with our mutual friends. A devastatingly beautiful funeral. Tuaca shots and raucous songs at a wake. Flowers hand picked from the fields (thank you and love you @lovebrook_CIC
and @ditchlingwildsauna) to lay on a handwoven coffin. Time with the sea and the sky. Don’t know yet about what’s next but for sure there’ll be more feeling to come.

This is a long slow painstaking journey of healing from the inside of a deep unfathomable loss. Heartbreak demands its space
- it shall have it.

This warrior of a single mum left behind a teenage son. She enlisted a team of awesome adults to walk beside him for this tender stage of life so he is not alone. We set up a fundraiser to help cover funeral costs , to clear outstanding bills, start him off with some security and without debt.

Sharing it here and in bio in case anyone reading is inspired to contribute. Thank you 🤍🤍🤍

Every surface in my home is covered with seed; drying, fermenting, waiting to be cleaned, winnowed, packed! I love everything about these processes, but I think what I love even more is the sharing of seed 🤗 & of knowledge. So if anyone reading this would like to learn more about how to save your own seed, I am giving a little talk & demo next Saturday @lovebrook_cic, we will collect & clean & winnow some seed, & there will be free seed to take home 🫘 Really looking forward to meeting some fellow seed enthusiasts or anyone curious to learn more! 🤓

Lovebrook Farm, The Street, Kingston
Saturday 26 September 1.30pm
It’s a free event but pls book in via the link @lovebrook_cic
