Walking for the First Time After Surgery… (Open Myomectomy Recovery)

This is what the first days of my open myomectomy recovery actually looked like — from trying to walk for the first time after fibroid surgery to finally leaving the hospital and going home.

After having an open myomectomy to remove my uterine fibroids, one of the first major challenges was simply getting out of bed.

In this video, I’m sharing the experience in real time.

You’ll see my first time getting up and walking after surgery, the pain and difficulty of getting in and out of the hospital bed, what I was able to eat, how I was feeling physically, and some of the challenges I experienced as my body started recovering.

We also continue into the next day as my doctor checks on me and we find out whether I’m ready to finally leave the hospital.

Then comes another experience I honestly hadn’t thought much about before surgery — getting into a car and riding home after an open abdominal procedure.

If you have uterine fibroids, are preparing for an open myomectomy, or are wondering what recovery after fibroid removal surgery can actually look and feel like, I hope documenting my experience this honestly helps you feel more prepared and less afraid of the unknown.

Every woman’s surgery and recovery can be different, so this is not medical advice or a prediction of what your experience will be. This is simply my personal open myomectomy journey and what recovery looked like for me.

In the next video, I’ll continue sharing what recovery was like once I was actually home — including the things that became easier, the things that were harder than expected, and what I learned from going through the experience myself.

If you are preparing for a myomectomy or have already had fibroid surgery, please share your experience in the comments. There may be another woman reading your comment right now who needs exactly the encouragement or information you can give her.

Thank you for following our journey and supporting us through this chapter. ❤️

Today we’re sharing Jasmine’s real open myomectomy experience — from preparing for fibroid removal surgery to seeing what the first day after surgery was actually like.

If you’ve been diagnosed with uterine fibroids, are preparing for an open myomectomy, or are simply trying to understand what fibroid surgery can look like, we hope sharing Jasmine’s experience helps you feel more informed and a little less alone.

In this first part of the journey, Jasmine explains why she decided to have surgery, what an open myomectomy is, what led us to this point, and how she was feeling before going into the operating room.

We then take you with us through surgery day.

While Jasmine was in surgery, I sat down and shared what we had learned from her doctor, what was happening behind the scenes, and some of the things we had learned about her fibroids and the procedure that we honestly didn’t fully understand before going through this ourselves.

Then you’ll see Jasmine after surgery and what those first hours of recovery looked like through the end of Day 1.

This video is especially for the woman who may be sitting at home right now searching:

“What is an open myomectomy?”
“What does fibroid removal surgery feel like?”
“What should I expect on surgery day?”
“What is recovery like after an open myomectomy?”
“Should I be scared?”

We had many of those same questions.

This is not meant to replace medical advice, and every woman’s situation, surgery and recovery can be different. We’re simply documenting Jasmine’s personal experience as honestly as possible in hopes that it can help someone else walking into a similar situation.

There were emotional moments, scary moments, a lot of waiting, a lot of learning — and ultimately an enormous amount to be grateful for.

This is only the beginning of Jasmine’s recovery.

The next episode continues with Day 2 after her open myomectomy and shows what the hospital recovery process looked like as the reality of surgery really began to set in.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Jasmine, checked on her, prayed for her and followed our family through this season. ❤️
