I bought my copy of Rose Levy Beranbaum’s seminal work The Cake Bible just after it was first released in 1988 and have been baking from it ever since. The egg, butter and chocolate-spattered pages speak of many a happy hour spent recreating the recipes it contains - from the simple to the showstopper. Imagine my delight when the 35th Anniversary Edition was announced - I was so thrilled that I have set myself a serious (and possibly mad) challenge; to bake my way through the revised edition from start to finish. I am beyond grateful to have embarked on this adventure with the gracious permission of Rose and her husband Woody, and I begin with one of their favourites - the Lemon Poppy Seed Pound Cake. If you’re an long-time fan like me, or discovering the Cake Bible for the first time, I hope you’ll join me as I pay my respects to a great culinary work by one of the most generous, inspiring, meticulous and gifted partnerships in the world of baking.

Autumn is upon us, and I couldn’t be more pleased. While it’s pumpkin carving season here and we’re busy pulling out our sweaters and raking leaves, in Australia it’s time to unpack the swimsuits and pick fresh strawberries. If you like to embrace the seasons (whether autumnal or vernal depending on the hemisphere in which you reside), you may want to check out Home, Harvest and Hearth which is an online magazine created by two Aussie ladies. Their inaugural issue contains a recipe for a fancy strawberry pastry called Financiers to celebrate strawberry season in Oz. And if you’re enjoying the lovely Fall harvest, you can find a wonderful looking spicy butternut squash soup recipe which I plan to make this weekend. Both can be found here: www.mealsinthemail.com "For lovers of food, storytelling, and the way old-fashioned snail-mail connects us, across oceans and through time." #Autumn #Spring #HomeHearthHarvest #Recipes #SnailMail

This illustrated envelope is a little bit special to me. It’s the ingredients for making pumpkin soup, but not just any pumpkin soup. These are the ingredients for a recipe that was given to me by a friend (who has since passed on), who showed me a moment of kindness at a time when I felt particularly vulnerable. I’ve shared the story of that pumpkin soup recipe on the new Meals in the Mail website, so you can read it via the link in my bio if you’re interested. It’s food and stories like these from others that @love.setsthetable and I will be digging into and celebrating via Meals in the Mail, and both of us feel so much joy and honour to read and cook those recipes. And if you’re a subscriber to my Naomi Loves newsletter, you’ll have received a letter from me this morning with some rather big news, and a printable template so you can make this envelope for yourself (complete with the recipe itself as an internal liner). #foodstories #mealsinthemail #myseasonaltable #homehearthandharvest #pumpkinsoup
