How many times have you been told that stretching will change your posture, prevent injury, or help recovery?

Now, how many times have you been shown evidence that any of those things are true?

I am willing to bet very few, and the reason is because that evidence either doesn't exist or is low quality with low confidence in any conclusive findings.

That doesn't mean there aren't any benefits to stretching, far from it. But it's not a magic bullet and it probably isn't going to prevent anything from happening injury-wise.

You may increase your available Range of Motion by doing so though. This can have advantages, but usually the intensity of such is so low that even primary musculoskeletal changes aren't likely to occur. It's not so different from strength training in this way!

The next time you try to use stretching to solve any issue in the physical realm, ask yourself "Is this simply more stress to my current overreaching, or do I have a mobility goal?" If it's the latter, it may be better to try and include it as part of your existing program as explicitly ROM training, rather than a catch-all to volume mismanagement.

If you still don't know where to start, let's talk about it!

Friends to fill my soul, new and old,, climbing on sandstone, checking on the property, and of course @highsteph and her funtastic and amazing Crack Clinic! Steph is the best 😊 Thank you @tommychandler for the RAD shots on Binou's and by the fire. You took awesome photos and made us all look good 📸 🥰 The desert is magic and there's a reason we keep coming back! ✨️

Some shots from @highsteph’s Crack Climbing Clinic in Indian Creek a couple weeks ago. What a great experience. Knowledgeable, funny, and caring guides, professional photography, delicious food, killer swag bag, and lovely memories made with lovely people in a lovely place. Still so many more pictures to post, but I’ll start here with a few from Day 1 of the 2-day clinic. Massive thank you to the guides, @highsteph, @andrewbisharat, @lancelemkau, and @enormocast. And another giant thank you to @tommychandler for the photos ❤️ #crackclimbingclinic #indiancreek #utah #getinwhereyoufitin #sayyestocrack #forgottotakeoffmywatch

Love when my bestie @lovestang comes to visit because we always get into some kind of adventure 😂 we had to slog through a wetlands squishy trail, ford a river that was above the hip, turn around when a poison oak covered tree was blocking the entire trail, but it was such a beautiful day and the company was top tier, we just couldn’t be mad! Ate delicious pastries from Big Sur Bakery, saw sparkling ocean views, looked at rocks at the ocean, found a lot of fun driftwood, and laughed our asses off all day. Good for the body but also good for the soul 🥰 Can’t wait for our next adventure!
