What does home mean to you?

As part of TUS Community & Culture Week, we meet Athlone native and Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) graduate Cormac Dixon, whose artwork Detached (2025) is now proudly displayed in the Boardroom of the Mary Ward Centre for Science on our Athlone campus.

Part of the Alchemy Collection, Detached explores Cormac’s personal relationship with home, belonging and change, inspired by his experiences of moving house throughout his life.

From studying at Moate Business College to discovering his passion for ceramics at LSAD, Cormac reflects on how working with clay brought him back to childhood memories and a feeling of home.

His work also speaks to an experience many students can relate to, leaving somewhere familiar, finding their feet in a new environment and becoming part of a new community.

Now pursuing the next chapter of his artistic journey in Berlin, Cormac shares the story behind his installation and what home means to him.

A lovely reminder that home isn't always a place. Sometimes it's the people, experiences and communities we find along the way.

We'd love to hear from our students. What makes TUS feel like home to you?

What if education could help create a more regenerative future for Ireland?

Join us at @lsadlimerick for an evening with ‘The Pluriversity’, a public exhibition asking what kind of university our communities and region will need in the decades ahead as part of @irish_designweek

For one evening, step inside that imagined world. Gather at the exhibition over wine and food; listen to a series of short talks from the designers who shaped it, tracing the project from its strategic foundations to the ideas and creative decisions that gave it form.

We’ll then invite you to consider one question - “What’s next?” - and share your perspectives in a conversation about what Ireland might need to build, and how design can help us imagine what tomorrow’s university might become.

Thursday 12 November | 6pm
The Church Gallery, Limerick School of Art and Design, Clare Street, Limerick

There is no admission charge, but registration is required to book your place.

Register via the link in bio.

Created in partnership with Rethink Ireland and the UL Foundation.

The GTI Art students, accompanied by their teachers Marie and Sadhbh, visited @lsadlimerick for its Open Day. The visit gave students an opportunity to learn more about further study options and potential career pathways in art and design. 🎨 It was also a pleasure to meet GTI Art graduates Rosa O’Dea and Stacey Cunniffe, who are now continuing their studies at @tus_ire.

As part of their Art Appreciation module, students also visited @limerickcitygallery, where they explored works by David Lilburn and Jim Savage, along with pieces from the gallery’s permanent collection. 👨‍🎨

Thank you to Technological University of the Shannon and Limerick City Gallery of Art for welcoming our students and providing valuable opportunities to engage with art and explore future possibilities. 👏
