For the past eight years, I’ve been steadily working on a five-part series of performances called By My Own Hand. After so much time and dedication to this project, it is with that trademark blend of excitement, nervousness, and preemptive mourning that I announce: the fifth and final chapter of the By My Own Hand series is finally here! INVISIBLE TOUCH will premiere at PICA’s TBA Festival September 10–13!
.
It’s been a dream come true to work with this cast—Linda Austin, claire barrera, keyon gaskin, Taka Yamamoto, and Lu Yim—who all brought brilliance, curiosity, rigor, and distinct ways of thinking and moving into this process. Working alongside people who I have such deep histories with has been both affirming and wildly generative. It’s been a gift to watch the work become something larger and stranger than I could have imagined on my own.
.
I have so much to say about what this project has meant to me: how it has pushed me as an artist, what I’ve learned about “process,” how it has steered me through some rough times, and what it feels like to finally arrive at the end of something I’ve been carrying for nearly a decade. But I’ll save that for another time. For now, I invite you to join us at @picapdx’s TBA Festival! Link in the usual place.

🎪What an amazing experience performing in and assistant directing Amy Ruhl’s OTHER SPACES with @lu_yim ! Collaboration is deeply moving! Being in and apart of developing intimacies, working relationships, imperfect organizations, and new communities is the stuff of life! I learned so much. Grateful for the chance to continue discovering more about my leadership/director style in all its strengths and weaknesses 😂🙊Thank you Portland for coming out to see it. Thank you @amyruhl @lu_yim @oregoncontemporary @converge_45 Amanda, @lumit, Ilsa, Candace, Blake, JEFF!, Alan, Curtis, Liam and Chris!!!! And thank you to Ursula Le Guin and TIRIN!!!!! Congrats to all the other artists and organizers who made this possible. 🤍💛🤍💛🤍💛🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎪incredible photography by @mariogalluccistudio ☘️
