🧚🏻‍♀️Fae Workum (he/him) is an emerging artist, photographer, and fashion designer whose work embraces maximalism, bold colour, and eccentricity. His practice is deeply influenced by alternative and internet subcultures, and the ways they intersect with music, fashion, and politics.

With a long history of creativity dating back to childhood (he still has the hot glue gun scars
to prove it), his fascination with art has led him to explore as many mediums as possible,
always chasing the pure bliss of the “artist’s flow state.” He is currently studying a
Bachelor of Fashion Design at QUT, where he has found that, now more than ever, he is
drawn to tactile, hands-on mediums that allow him to feel connected to a piece throughout its
entire creation. 🪡

🖍️Jamie (she/they) is self taught multimedia artist originally from Rockhampton, Queensland, now based out of Brisbane. Working primarily with bright hues of acrylics, oils and textiles- Jamie’s work has primarily been in response to navigating a Catholic upbringing in a small town as a politically inclined queer feminist, and explores the patriarchal violence associated with that. They pull inspiration from artists such as Ai Wei Wei (‘Remembering’, 2009) and Jenny Holzer (‘Lustmord’, 1993-94), for the artists’ ability to elicit emotion and educate their audience with previously unknown perspectives from women. Jamie has previously been published in the IMA’s ‘Art Enquirer’ in 2017, alongside a number of other young artists, but will be exhibiting formally for the first time this year. 💜

🍀Lucent Flow (they/them) is a kind-punk printmaker. They facilitate creative art groups and collaborative art-making projects. They are currently playing with mixed media and recycled materials on themes of nature and queerness. They make prints, patches and badges for the time being, and have a lot of unfinished projects.

Meet Lucian Marine!

This week we’ll be getting to know the Interfaith Childhoods team!

Lucian is a research associate with Interfaith Childhoods, who currently lives in Naarm. Lucian came onboard with Interfaith Childhoods in 2018 and manages a range of tasks for the project: facilitating art workshops, contacting and corresponding with schools, admin and transcripts, and social media. When Lucian isn’t working with the Interfaith Childhoods project she works as an Art Therapist, Mental Health Practitioner and Group Facilitator. Lucian is passionate about self expression through creative arts and movement, and making groups accessible, inclusive and equitable.

We asked Lucian a few questions:

Is there one experience from the project that’s really interested you?
“I am interested in hearing people's stories and experiences, having my perceptions broadened and becoming aware of any bias or social conditioning I may have and be unaware of. People are unique but share so much.”

What are you reading?
“I am currently reading - "I'm Still Here, Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness" By Austin Channing Brown. It is giving me much to think about and question, things I have never realised or taken for granted. How the most common situation can have so many barriers for another person. How society limits people's ability, progress and potential.”

Have you picked up any new skills/hobbies during lockdown?
“During lockdown I've tried to increase my personal therapeutic art practice like eco-dying (steaming leaves and rust to colour paper and material), and increase my exercise and meditation practices.”

Check out our full interview at the link in our bio.

This time of year has been especially hard for adjusting to research in lockdown. July last year I was with @ainecaitrin @interfaithchildhoods @creative_circles_ in east Melbourne running arts workshops with children to talk about faith, community, home and belonging. This specific fieldwork site is a special site. There are a range of children from different faith backgrounds and cultural backgrounds. The child I was working with the most taught me a lot about what it means to make things. He often couldn’t say what he felt on a subject but by his lack of saying things and lack of making things, he said so much. It was embedded in the methods @ainecaitrin developed for this project where we explore and invite material expression and agency through making. And in making fortune tellers that spoke about the future and not the past, we learned a lot about this participant and his view of his home and the world. The paper quoted in the last photo features data from this fieldwork site. We talk about how affect can be used to think through children’s embodied experiences of trauma. You can download the paper here: https://revistes.ub.edu/index.php/matter/article/view/30911

A year ago today we were in East Melbourne making refuge tents with children from an arts mentoring program. We asked them to explore their identities and the things that really mattered to them. What are some things that make you feel safe, or at home? To the artists and families that we work with - the interfaithchildhoods research team hopes you are all happy, safe and healthy. We look forward to doing art with you again soon ❤️✨ @ainecaitrin @creative_circles_ @marissawillcox

Mandala a Day. 3.3.19.
Home from Seven Sisters Festival. Body is aching. Eyes stinging with need for sleep. Heart full. It feels so good to have created a space for so many people to engage in art over the weekend. How wonderful to have an idea and see it through to fruition, to work alongside amazing volunteers, to witness people immersed, and to receive stories of how the space supported them. What an honour to be in service in this way. So grateful for creativity, and for this practice of making mandalas that has opened so many possibilities. Am looking forward to sharing a month of mandalas with others in April. Please message if you’re keen to join! #mandala #mandalaaday #sevensistersfestival #volunteering #artinstallation #service #creativity #arttherapy #cocooncreativeartstherapies
