Meet Vancouver’s most loyal World Cup fan.

For more than 50 years, she’s been known simply as Girl in a Wetsuit, quietly watching over Coal Harbour.

But lately she’s been trading the wetsuit for soccer jerseys, representing different countries as the World Cup takes over the city.

And honestly… for the first time in years, she feels a little less like a statue and a little more like a person.

So here’s the question:

If Vancouver is hosting the FIFA World Cup, isn’t it finally time to give her a better nickname?

Woooo hoooo! Here’s to celebrating birthdays in another country! 🥳🥳 The beauty and magic of Vancouver was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

We were lucky enough to have sunshine every day but one, and spent an incredible day on a Sea to Sky adventure with Yellow Cap Experience! Shoutout to @luciokd the rockstar owner, who made the entire experience feel so personal and fun. We had breathtaking views on the drive up to Squamish, then jumped on a gondola ride for snow at the top of the mountain, and lots of photo opps! #duh 📸

So fun being able to go to the mountains one day, and the beach the next! Thanks for showing us around your town, @kristinbalter and fun fact: we learned that Kitsilano is basically the La Jolla of Vancouver!

Traveling with go-with-the-flow friends who love to explore, laugh easily, and say yes to the moment is priceless.

Happy Birthday, @jan.kameir! 💛 So grateful for you, this trip, the delicious breakfasts every day, and even the days you made me work out on our vacation (LOL)! Here’s to a fabulous new year ahead! 💖👏🏼🫶🏼

GW 18+19 ✅ The last couple of weeks saw all manner of strange things as we wrapped up the league campaign and now shift our focus to the cups.

🅰️
The A's had their first and hopefully last game of the season on grass as they took on Port Moody this past weekend. Even a frozen goose shit covered field couldn't stop the lads playing some good stuff as @sgrk_11 opened the scoring while @josephwalsh02 grabbed a fine brace and @sasa_ken__ once again pulled the strings as he set up two with a couple of superb assists, the game finishing with a 3-2 W.

The final league game the week before was a tough way to end a very successful first run at div 2 for the boys as they went down 3-2 to a strong Cosmos side. Goals on the day from @sasa_ken__ and returning capitano @sebastian.hd_

🅱️
The B's had a cup bye this past week which provided a well earned rest before they begin a busy few weeks with both Div 3+Div 4 cup action and a promotion playoff to look forward to.

The week before they wrapped up their league campaign in style with a thumping 5-0 win against Cleves in ridiculous conditions. Brazi defender turned goal machine @luciokd smashing home a cracking hatty while Hercy and captain @jasongoncalvess kept the race for the golden boot tight as ever as both found the net through the thick fog.

Cup action kicks off this weekend so on to the next one we go 🐺🏆

RS flag still hanging...

Unfortunately, the rain has returned and the water is rising once again. In some cities that were initially affected by the flooding, where the water had receded to river level and people had joined efforts to clean the hundreds of affected houses over the weekend, they now have had to halt all the hard work and evacuate the areas once again, as the flooding has returned (not even a week later from the initial events).

For those who don't fully grasp the severity of the situation, there are estimates of 5,000 deaths around the state, although the media is only reporting around 100 at the moment. Over 700,000 people were directly affected by the flooding, and about 200,000 have lost everything (so far). And this was only during the event; now the situation will unfortunately worsen, as most water is contaminated and the population is falling ill while waiting in community shelters for the water level to recede. Additionally, winter is approaching, and for those unaware, the southern Brazil region is known for having the coldest weather in the country, with temperatures dropping below zero degrees.

It's estimated that it will take about 10 years for the entire state to recover from this, so this nightmare is far from over.

We need to persist, we need to join hands and continue fighting for our people, together. Let's maintain our hard work and efforts to rebuild RS.

Thank you all for your support thus far; you have no idea how much it is needed and appreciated. 🤍
